Silk is one of the most luxurious (and expensive) fabrics you can wear. It’s beautiful, breathable, soft, and elegant. Silk is the fiber closest to our skin and contains 18 amino acids beneficial to the human body. But not all silk is equal. Some Info About Silk:
Genuine silk is a natural fabric made from the cocoons of silkworms. You can see the cocoons in the photo above and also the end result, silk thread. Silk was originally developed in China. It is also somewhat self-temperature regulating so your body doesn’t umm…sweat in it as you do in synthetics.
History of Silk:
Genuine silk was originally developed in China. There it remained until the Han Dynasty opened the Silk Road and trade with the West in 130 B.C. The country maintained a virtual monopoly over silk production for another thousand years. China is still known today for this beautiful fabric.

LILYSILK Lousiville Print Trench Dress:
If ever there was a universally flattering dress that can be worn to work or to a fancy dinner, it’s this dress! In the photo above you’ll see my back in the actual LILYSILK Lousiville Trench Dress to show off the beautiful equestrienne print. This silk is not slinky as much as soft since it is wrinkle-resistant silk twill.
There is a matching waist tie belt but you can wear it straight and loose, or use any belt you wish with it. The long sleeves make it a lovely dress for any occasion this Winter. It’s beautifully made and even though it’s just $239 (sizes XS to XXL) it looks very much more expensive.
Button-down dresses will always be a classic. The Lilysilk Louisville Trench Dress will be equally flattering on anyone of any size and there are blouses and skirts in this print as well. My editorial sample in size Large was generously sized. The A-line skirt goes over the calf . However, as a short woman, this dress was more maxi than mid and fell a bit past my calves than on the model.
LILYSILK Silk Safari Blouse:
Another spectacular silk item from LILYSILK is their silk safari blouse which is available in olive (my sample) and apricot. This gorgeous blouse has two front pockets and a quality button placket. The Sandwashed charmeuse silk is soft and drapey with a slight sheen. It’s also wrinkle-resistant.
To me, this shirt is high quality and looks much more expensive than it is at $149. The sand-washed fabric feels like suede and feels great on your skin. There are shoulder epaulets that make this blouse a classic, go-with-everything kind of style. It’s also generously sized in XS to XXL.
This is my selfie wearing the olive safari shirt. You can dress this up with a skirt, or down with jeans or pants. I love the olive color but I wish there were more than two to choose as I’d get them all! This is an investment piece that you will wear for many years.
Taking Care of Silk:
Silk is a durable and beautiful fabric. However, it can stain and it needs TLC. On the LilySilk Website it says their silk clothing is washable but if you want to avoid the dry cleaner, hand wash only.
