Lipstamp $24.95 is one of those products that you never thought you needed, until you spy it in person and think: “how clever!” It helps you apply lipstick in one of eight, precise shapes. The plastic base with oval mirror is the anchor for one the sponge, lip-shaped forms as their peel on/off adhesive backing keeps them in place.
Using this is as easy as child’s play: The concept is a grown-up version of the potato stamps you probably carved in elementary school arts & crafts class! A stamp is just something that leaves an impression. This one helps you create lips shapes that would be extremely difficult to re-create on your own with just a lipstick tube and a lip brush. To use it, simply select one of the sponge shapes from one of the laminated, pink “playing cards” stick it on the base, then carefully cover the sponge with your favorite lipstick (like coloring!). Align it with your bottom lip and press the stamp with your mouth closed. Voila! Your top and bottom lip will be colored with a perfect shape! The shapes include Two “Clara Bow”-style options: ” Bow Dacious” and “Pouty,” while “Flavor Full” and “Plump” give you larger than life lips, “High Fashion, “Peaks Pouty,” Sexy Slim Slender, and “Small and Large” give you more options.
It sounds great, but does it really work? It depends upon your skill with the device, and the condition of your lips. I tried the “Bow Dacious” covered in my favorite, red lipstick (deep shades really require a sharp, precise shape that’s hard to do with a brush unless you’re an expert). The LipStamp worked perfectly. Alas, on me, the look was more “Memoirs of a Geisha” than kiss-me-quick! And, once you have initially colored a stamp with a deep color, it would be challenging to use it again with something different. Make sure you exfoliate your lips carefully and apply a light balm before stamping. It’s easy to stamp the bottom lip perfectly, but depending upon the size and shape of your lips, the top could be trickier. I tried one of the larger, outside-of-the-shape stamps and I looked a bit crazy, not cute!
This is a cute idea, but at $24.95 it’s probably not a “must-have.” Still, it’s something you could try for Valentine’s day, and it makes a cute gift for a BFF. Just make sure you practice with whatever shape you are going to use before you plan to go out in public. Keep some makeup remover and concealer on hand in case you want to try, try again.
