Do you believe in love at first sight? You might, if the object of your affection was a fragrance by Givenchy called: Ange ou Demon. Launched last year, this fragrance is beautiful, inside and out. The bottle is spectacular: a an elegant, seductive teardrop reminiscent of a a crystal chandelier “drop.” And the fragrance is a mix of Italian Winter lemon, cranberry, and green tea leaves, with sambac, white peony, jasmine and water flowers, at drydown with blond woods, patchouli, and white musk. The scent was inspired by a “jasmine tea” theme, but once you blend in green and fresh notes with woods, musks, tart cranberry and patchouli, you get something truly special. You get a bit of light (“Ange”), and also some seduction ( “Démon”).
Now there’s a new version of this superbly enticing fragrance called: Ange ou Démon le Secret Elixir. The notes in the Le Secret Elixir are bolder and more sensual: In the top notes, there is still Italian lemon and green tea in the top notes., softened by a bit of neroli. The heart of the original Ange ou Demon is still there, with the addition or orange blossom and frangipani flower. It is the exotic, voluptuous, frangipani flower that really shines through in this new fragrance. Blond woods, patchouli and white musk were the cornerstones of the base in the original, but now there is more vanilla along with the woods, white musk, and patchouli, plus a sensual bit of cedar wood. The result of this mélange is a fragrance that reveals the fruit, but maintains the spice. It’s exciting, and different and there’s the frangipani flower that makes this so much more sensual than the first fragrance. There is less “tea” and more, the “tease.” This fragrance isn’t just another lost in the crowd. It’s distinctive — a truly sensual fruity floral. You’ll know when you smell it, that you have to have it!
The Eau de Parfum arrives in an stark, white carton with deep plum, metallic lettering and “le Secret Elixir” in shiny silver. A subtle starburst of plum radiates like an angel’s halo, from the front of the box. This new, le Secret Elixir version of Ange ou Démon has the same, faceted bottle (designed by Serge Mansau) but this time, it’s edgier, done up in smokey amethyst.
As with the original Ange ou Démon, Le Secret Elixir features the exceptional actress, Uma Thurman, as the face of the fragrance. Place it on your pulse points and get someone else’s pulse racing, along with your own.
