“If music be the food of love, play on..” So, for Valentines’ Day, we’re quoting this famous phrase from Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare to help you set the mood for music lovers.
The gift of music is one that lasts far beyond Valentines’ Day, but it is also something you can offer to just about anyone regardless of your relationship status. Here are some ideas to get you started:
For Lovers of Rock & Roll:
Music lovers flock to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland, for a super-memorable and immersive musical experience.
However, you can bring some of the excitement with Time-Life and the Rock and Roll Hall DVD Set ($99).
Each year the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducts new artists featuring rock music from the ’60s through today
.
Our photo shows a trio of DVD sets including In Concert Encores and the complete Hall of Fame induction speeches with so many superstar names, I can’t even begin to list them.
You also get the 25th Anniversary Concert 3-DVD set from the concerts at Madison Square Garden. We watched the concerts which run over two nights. It was such an amazing experience.
For me, one memorable moment was watching the great Stevie Wonder’s expression when he forgot the words to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean.” But there were so many other intimate clips you’ll watch over and over again.
This Emmy® award-winning DVD set includes Crosby, Stills & Nash; Paul Simon; Simon & Garfunkel; U2; Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band, plus special guests including Jackson Browne, B.B. King, John Fogerty, Mick Jagger, and more.
Included is a 36-page Rolling Stone Magazine companion booklet.
There is so much music in this boxed set it will keep you or your gift recipient entertained for days. It is a music lovers dream gift.

Jazz Lovers:
The Jazz Party CD:
Delfeayo is a member of the Marsalis family of accomplished musicians.
The Jazz Party CD by Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra is the perfect V-day gift for the lover of swing and jazz.
The Jazz Party CD incorporates original compositions bringing together modern New Orleans Jazz (e.g. the title track, Jazz Party) with swing (e.g. Caribbean Second Line), funk (e.g. Dr. Hardgroove), and other blues and jazz influences.
The result is a delightful melange of songs that are as lively and colorful as the CD cover, with lots of brass to tap your toes to.
The CD is just $12 or $9.50 for an MP3 (we saw it on Amazon). This would be a nice gift to give someone you are dating but not “exclusive” with yet, and of course, or any music lover.
Collection of Fred Hersch Jazz:
Lovers of progressive jazz will be delighted with the impressive 10 Years 6-CD boxed set from the Fred Hersch Trio ($50).
While the CDs don’t include all of Fred Hersch’s recorded works, this collection compiled by Palmetto Records focuses on the 5 albums the trio has released in 10 years.
For music lovers of progressive jazz, this impressive set of Hersch’s music will be a stellar addition to their collection, with enough music to keep them happy for hours and hours!
Lovers of Fashion & Festivals:
Music lovers know, you can’t wear just any headphones for your favorite festivals. The floral-festooned headband makes you feel festival-ready.
Rose Rockers ($98) are fold-able Bluetooth headphones, but not anything like those you’ve seen before.
The faux roses dress up your look in blue, pink or purple, but there are a few other styles including sheer blossoms and a chic black vegan leather band.
These headphones are not just a fashion statement, they’re created by Nicole Rosé (she’s a DJ so she knows a thing or two about the sound).

While not concert all quality, I found the sound to be good at a medium range, with a generous base and clear vocals.
But more than making a fashion statement or playing your tunes, I love that they are sized for a woman’s head, not just his head. They’re cute and comfortable, especially if you take them on a long trip (as I did).
Wear them at festivals to keep in the groove. At home and you’ll turn heads on the street (I am testing them and getting head swiveling smiles).
