What is is about romance novels that captures a woman’s imagination? Maybe it’s that romance novels are “hot” literally and figuratively. Sexy men save the heroine, always a damsel in distress. No matter what what, you can count on a happy ending, because love always triumphs. And while you’re getting to that happy ending, there will be some steamy scenes, in between.
Let’s face it, we women love the fantasy. It makes sense that M-A-C- Cosmetics would create a makeup collection (for Fall 2014) called: “A Novel Romance.” This collection is colorful, and novel (meaning unique, because it’s from MAC) and it is bold. There are colors for the temptress and vixen, but there are also plenty of blush-worthy romantic colors, too. And, each of the names of the products in this Fall-centric collection could be a romance title. Makeup can really change the way you feel. Try some of the colors in this collection, bold, warm, cool, or soft and sweet, and see what comes your way. The Fall is teeming with possibilities…….

Here is the rundown on the entire collection which is available in stores NOW (but get the pieces you want quickly because these will sell out). I’ve included my personal thoughts as well, on the colors and products I tried:

A Novel Romance Light cool dusty pink (Cremesheen)
Good KisserMid-tone fuchsia (Matte)
Hearts Aflame Mid-tone brick red (Matte) *I would normally call this a sexy lip color because it is a matte red, but it’s a classic rusted red which makes it the right red for Fall/Winter. Make it yours and it will be a “true love” especially if you have a warmer skin tone and crave a beautiful warm red. I adore it!
Lingering Kiss Deep plum red (Matte) *this is a true”vixens” lip color. The deep plum flatters most, looks amazingly erotic on pale skin tones. It is apologetically sexy and the one to pick when you want him to notice you.
Myself Soft shimmery nude beige (Lustre)
Yield to Love Mid-tone rose (Cremesheen) (Online Exclusive) * this could be the perfect, “swoon-worthy” rose. It’s a creamy rose that you might envision on a romance heroine after she’s kissed her hero…at lot Let it work some romantic, universally flattering magic on your lips, too.
Lipglass ($15.00 U.S. / $18.00 CDN) (Limited Edition)
Bared for You Soft rose gold *Oh a vanilla-scented, super-shiny, Lipglass is a joy no matter what the color, but this one is the type M-A-C- does a lot of –a nearly nude, really pearly pink with a lot of gold shimmer. Even a light coating of this one makes lip super-pouty. Wear it in your “boudoir.”
Pure Fiction Mid-tone violet pink
Reckless Desire Sheer pearlescent lavender grey
Talk Sexy Dark purple *my first thought was it should be worn over the “Lingering Kiss” deep plum lipstick to make it even more Va-Va-Voom, but on it’s own it slicks on medium-sheer with a lot of purple shimmer, and makes lips look bee-stung and pouty, and super-shiny. You don’t need anything more as the color is intense enough to wear “as-is.”
Wanting More Washed-out lavender
Powder Blush ($22.00 U.S. / $26.00 CDN) (Limited Edition)
Fun Ending Soft neutral peach (Satin) *a true romantic heroine needs to blush, nicely. This medium-toned, matte peach is a perfect color for an innocent flush. Even if you normally wouldn’t try a peach blush, this one is neutral, so you can get a bit of a glow without looking garish.
Animal Instinctss Shimmering plum (Frost) *My immediate thought on this one was “deep, cool plum that would look perfectly at home on a Studio 54 disco diva from back in the day.” But plum is modern again. This color is dramatic, and it won’t flatter everyone, but if your skin is medium to deep, and cool-toned, your “instinct” would be correct to try it. The blush it produces will rock your world.

*Bronze, green, a plummy-brown and a glittery black with tons of silver make it both glamorous, and somewhat soft. These are the colors to wear with sensual fabrics: cashmere, soft wool, velvet, silk….the three shadow colors are the shades of Fall’s Earth-tones, the black liner adds a touch of glamour. You can’t go wrong with it, although It is clearly a warm-toned heroine’s favored palette.

*Passionate about plums and purple? Then you’re in luck because these colors are must-have for Fall. This plum-centric shadow quad features two mattes (the lightest and deepest shades) and two shimmers (mid-toned mauve and plum) which should work with everything you wear this Fall. Paired with the plum blush and lipstick, you will have “perfect harmony.” The tones are neutral to cool, so most will find them flattering. If you love purples, mauves and plums, this is the shadow quad to get.
