Back in 2006, I attended The 2nd Makeup Show at the Metropolitan Pavillion in NYC. I remember seeing Eve Pearl demonstrate makeup for television. If I remember correctly, she showed the assembled makeup artists what to consider when applying makeup for high definition television. I’d never heard of it!
Well, The Makeup Show, co-founded by The Powder Group and Metropolitan Events & Products, continues. The three day event was going on during the weekend. I missed the Editor’s preview but did manage to get there today. I got to the venue quite early, and by the time I left a few hours later, the place was packed!
The Makeup Show primarily caters to makeup artists, but I saw public relations colleagues and other bloggers there as well. For a makeup lover, it’s like a giant, adult candy store. There were over 70 different companies displaying, and selling, their products. The Advice Sisters have reviewed many of these, but there are always a few, new surprises. I picked up some products that I will be reviewing in the near future, but here are some picks from this morning’s visit to The Makeup Show:
The Advice Sisters love Jane Iredale makeup, but these are the new, summer products, including a gorgeous two-toned bronzer. Jane’s summer makeup isn’t just beautiful, and mineral-based, it has mild to serious SPF in it. Jane Ireldale has high quality, micronized mineral products that color, conceal, and protect against the sun’s damaging rays….I can’t wait to try some of the new concealers and pressed powder foundation! (visit http://www.janeireldale.com/ )
Every makeup artist and fashionista knows that if you don’t want to get mascara (or glitter or liner) on your face, one way to avoid it is to hold up a tissue. Myrabelle Products has a plastic mascara shield that is easier to use, and can be used over and over again. You can wash the mascara shield with soap and water, or eye makeup remover. Use
it not just to coat and color, but when you’re separating those lashes with a comb. It’s clever, cheap $10.00 plus shipping… and it works! (visit http://www.myrabellemascarashield.com/)
There aren’t just rows and rows of makeup items, there are also demonstrations and workshops. I learned how to apply mascara with a brush instead of the wand, where to emphasize mascara on close set and wide set eyes, and how to wear two shades of red (warm and cool) to make a poutier lip–and that was just in ten minutes!
I saw Dermalogica, a company whose SPF products are truly excellent. For this season, they have a truly fantastic value, a $35.00, 4-piece “Daylight Defense” kit (a $57.00 value) which features a Multivitamin BodyBlock SPF 20 (1.7 fl. oz) , Solar Defense Booster (.34 oz.) , an After Sun Repair Lotion (1.3 fl. oz) and one of my favorite products, the Solar Shield Stick (.28 oz.). All these travel-sized items will keep you safe from the sun, no matter what your skin type. This would be an excellent gift for a weekend host or hostess, too. (visit: http://www.dermalogica.com/ )
