We are always SO excited when we receive Maybelline samples to test out and share with Advicesisters readers. In our last post about Maybelline’s new products, we focused on the Total Temptation Collection which was featured at Fashion Week in New York. But this feature showcases some of the new and innovative lip products (and a nice foundation) that Maybelline has launched in the last couple of months.
Python:
We’re starting with the Maybelline New York Python Metallic Lip Kit ($9.99/each) is a collection of lip duos that let you create daring, statement lips by mixing and layering these bold, highly pigmented lip colors.
These launched in January. We tried 3 color combos but we’ve included the photo above from the Maybelline website to show you all the colors and what you can do with them.
In this lipstick photo (LtoR) there’s #25 Valient. We thought “too purple” but mixed with the super shimmery gold it actually looked pretty. Maybelline suggests you start with a layer of the lip color and then add the shimmer lip shadow, but we mixed it together for a more subtle look.
On the right is #O5 Passionate is a bold red with a shimmery red lip shadow. Whether you just want to wear a nice red lip or add the metallic line, it’s up to you.
Beneath we see green and gold #35 snakebite. We admit daring colors aren’t for everyone. If it’s something you’d like to try, these are an affordable, fun way to experience the trend.
ColorStay Lipstick
In the middle of our Python Lipstick photo, there are two Color Sensational Color Matte Lipsticks (Srp. $7.49). We love the ColorStay Liquid Lipstick but this is a more traditional lipstick bullet and it’s creamy but follows the matte trend.
Matte Lips can be daunting, but these colors feel just as silky as a regular lipstick and they look moist but matte.
Our samples were #698 Cruel Ruby, a deep red that manages to look beautiful and natural on your lips, and #700 NocturnalRose which is a medium rose for those who aren’t quite up to making a big statement. For those who are, try the grey “Concrete Jungle” “Green Savage” or “Carnal Brown.”
Super Stay Matte Ink
We’ve been seeing the Maybelline Commercials for Superstay Matte Ink Un-Nude LipColors almost every day on television, but these amazing lip products that launched in November 2017 are part of the Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lip Color ($9.49) we did receive for review, All offer a moistly matte look lasting up to 16 hours (we tested it and it wears like iron)!
You have to be precise when you apply these lippies, and the arrow-shaped tip applicator helps. Maybelline suggests the right way to apply is to start in the center of your upper lip and follow the contours of your mouth.
SuperStay Matte Ink’s formula doesn’t like it’s dead and flat on your lips, and it doesn’t crack or flake. they also don’t dry your lips out as much as most of the long wear lip products do. We love these!
Superstay Full Coverage Foundation
When you want a truly flawless complexion, you need a full coverage makeup. Maybelline’s new Superstay Full Coverage Foundation ($11.99) launched in January offering a truly long wear foundation (up to 24 hours) with 16 highly pigmented colors to choose from.
We really like the glass with pump-cap packaging which dispenses just the amount you’d need to cover a full face.
The foundation itself is easy to apply, oil-free, dermatologist tested, and it won’t clog your pores. you can use a foundation brush or sponge, but our fingertips applied this creamy liquid foundation easily, and we dotted a bit more over problem spots.
In our tests, the foundation didn’t transfer on clothing and stayed put without breakthrough shine or gathering into lines and creases.
We don’t always feel the need to wear a full coverage foundation, but when we do, we want it to perform. The Maybelline Superstay Full Coverage Matte foundation stayed true for hours and gave us the lightweight feel we wanted, along with a matte but not dry look.
We were sent 5 colors to test (see our pinwheel photo ) but we’re including the full range in our photo above. When you are wearing a full coverage product it really can’t be “fudged” so the trick is to pick the right color. Once you’ve done that, it’s One and DONE!
