Medik8’s 2-step overnight H.E.O. Mask offers up to 72 hours of long-lasting moisturization.
Three Key Categories for Moisturization:
The three key ingredient categories in the Medik& 2-step mask to provide a boatload of moisture are humectants, emollients, and occlusive. Used together, they can help to replenish dry, dehydrated skinTwo Steps to Hydrated Skin. Sometimes, multi-step and overnight masks can be messy. But not this one!
The first step is a clear gel and the 2nd is a white cream that absorbs completely. You won’t scare your sleeping partner or stain your pillowcase. I’m fine with this! The products are 100% vegan and are alcohol and cruelty-free. That’s good, too.
For those who need to know, the mask(s) are also free of fragrance, parabens, synthetic colors, phthalates, and alcohol.
Step 1:
The clear cooling blue gel provides the humectants to your skin. Humectants are like moisture magnets, drawing water into the skin. I felt a bit of a tingling but nothing too much even on my skin which is sensitive. The ingredients in the gel include multi-weight hyaluronic acid, glycerin, natural moisturizing factors, and blue sea kale. I recommend using just a little bit. Let it absorb before going to Step 2.
Step 2:
is a cream that provides emollients and an occlusive to your skin.
Emollients replenish lost moisture and restore the skin barrier. In this cream mask, there are ceramides, squalane, and linoleic acid. The occlusive (Dimethixone) seals in moisture and prevent it from evaporating. There is also Dimethicone which forms a breathable barrier over the surface of your skin.
There are no specific directions on how much to apply, but I think starting with less is a good idea. Give it time to sink in. Then if you want, add a little more. I didn’t, though.
The Bottom Line:
I prefer one-and-done masks, but others like the pampering ritual of more than one step. On the other hand, this new Medik8 H.E.O mask delivered a lot of moisture. I find it especially welcoming for dry, chapped, dehydrated skin. If you want to wake up with softer, plumper, smoother skin, it’s worth the $68 to give it a try.
