NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments have made my dream for a perfect matte lip color a reality!
By Alison Blackman
This new lip product looks amazing, stays put, doesn’t smudge, and make life easier and more beautiful!
Housed in the now-iconic matte black tubes with see-through panels and the white NARS logo on the cap, is a weightless, liquid, intense lip pigment: NARS new Powermatte Lip Pigment.
You can apply the product in one quick coat, but it’s the ultra long lasting smudge resistant wear that will knock your socks off!
Once it dries (nearly instantly) it locks in the color dries down instantly so you don’t have to re-apply it anytime soon (or maybe, never until you take it off).
Why You Need This Lip Newbie!
The matte lip look is a popular trend that isn’t fading away anytime soon. NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments are ultra-matte, not a hint of shine.
There is at least one color you’ll love in this collection with something for everyone from light to black.
There are plenty of wearable colors. While not everyone will be able to handle a stark, ultra-matte black lip look, Designer ADEAM used the “Paint it Black” color on the model’s lips for NYFW SS17 (the red lipstick on the model in the photos is NARS Audacious Lipstick “Lana”).
The sponge-tipped wand is super slim so you can even draw a thin line with it, then fill in with the long, flat side. But NARS also suggests using a lip pencil.
After initially trying four deep colors: e (L-R): Warm Leatherette, Under My Thumb, Light My Fire, and Just Push Play, I realized a lip pencil would be helpful, even though it’s optional. Unless your hand is very steady even a tiny wobble with intense colors need to be corrected. A lip pencil gives you an easier time filling in perfectly.
However, when I used two different colors, one as liner, one as lip color for an ombre look, the tip of the wand was fine and the look was easy and fun!
If you like matte lip looks this ultra matte is going to knock your socks off. .. of course you if you really want you can slick a gloss over any of these, but really, it misses the point of that.
If matte isn’t your match, there are plenty of other NARS lip choices that are moistly matte, or more traditional formulas of lipstick and glosses.
NARS is promoting the Powermate Lip Pigments as smudge-resistant as well as longwear, so that’s what intrigued me.
First, I drank two cups of black coffee out of a white mug, There was some transfer, but not that much.
Even better, while regular lipsticks tend to smudge when you eat and drink, Powermatte didn’t budge.
Subsequent tests were just as good. I wore this to a birthday party eating and drinking for over 5 hours and when I got home “Under My Thumb” a deep red, was still almost perfect, no smudges!
If there’s any downside, it’s that you’re not going to remove these easily with mere soap and water.
I used Micellar Water (that worked perfectly). Makeup remover will do the same.
There are 20 lip colors keyed to different skin tones but you should always wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful!
