Andy Warhol famously said that every person on Earth would be Famous for 15 minutes in their lifetimes. I’m not sure if that is true or not, but it’s an intriguing thought.
When it comes to holiday gifts and glamour, NARS is the stuff dreams are made of. The pre-packaged holiday items from NARS are amazing, collectible and covet-able, and there are a number of them, including the glamorous, NARS Candy Darling Beautiful Darling Set ($49.00). The ultimate blond bombshell and Andy Warhol’s greatest actress, Candy Darling thought beauty was a duty, and worked harder at it than anyone. NARS commemorates Candy’s legendary look with a silver deluxe cosmetics bag filled with tools for making your mark and doing your beauty duty. The gift set includes new colors: Candy Darling Mini Nail Polish—electric pink; Femme Fatale Duo Eyeshadow—sheer white shimmer and fresh mint green; Woman in Revolt Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss—hot pink, and a small cosmetics bag
But there’s a lot more!
From The NARS holiday collection comes an entire set of beauty, including five new nail polishes and one I really love as a standout: a creamy yellow nail polish ($18.00) called “15 minutes.” It may not get your 15 full minutes of fame, but it will get you plenty of envious looks. The Andy Warhol makeup collection makes a stunning addition to your favorite NARS products.
But along with lots of packaged sets to love, there is an entire color range that was created as a collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Launched in October, it is impressively large.
The 15 minutes the nail polish is yellow, and that color is usually associated with Spring and Summer. In this polish, somehow, the yellow seems to brighten up hands and looks fresh and modern, even against a backdrop of trendy holiday bolds and brights in the rest of your makeup. Yellow polish seems to have certain properties that make it hard to apply as an opaque, or even smoothly, and this one takes a few coats. In general, NARS nail polishes are smooth and creamy. This mellow yellow slides on smoothly in a coat two (or three), dries quickly, and leaves a shine that looks different than most holiday colors. Andy would have loved it!
Along with gorgeous gift-ables there is another must-have: the NARS soft touch shadow pencil ($24.00 is available in 11 colors, but a new color called HEAT is an intense teal that makes a smokey eye, a whole new ball of wax. It is also a color I might more normally think of for Spring or Fall, but the shimmery, blend-ablegreen creates a sexy eye look that even makes a LBD a bit more glamorous. These pencils are some of my favorite NARS products, because they are so portable, silky and bendable. You c an use them for a lid color, liner, or accent color. You can even layer them with a complimentary color for longer wear and a versatile look
I am going out on a limb here, but in my opinion, the standout in the collection are the eye shadow palettes that featured NARS and Andy Warhol’s Signature in shiny metallic silver on the front of the compacts, and Warhol’s face, with a reflective expression, created in the shadows. If you look at the photo above, the palette on the top left is “Self Portrait” featuring a grass green matte, with shimmery black and Warhols’ face and hand in a soft matte blue purple. The mirror at the top says: “I believe in low lights and trick mirrors, Andy Warhol” but with this collection, you won’t want to be in low light, you’ll want to be in the spotlight!
