Celebrate National Coffee Month With a Krups Grinder and Some Great Coffee Recipes!

national coffee month infographic (2) national coffee month infographic (2)

August is National Coffee Month. Coffee drinkers all over America are celebrating in their own special way.

According to an infographic advicesisters.com received from Krups 49% of coffee drinkers would rather give up their cell phone for a month than give up drinking coffee (I’ll be you thought were going to say “sex” but cell phone use ranks much higher in every poll (we’re not joking).

We don’t know how you like your coffee (see the infographic above to check out how your part of the country likes it most. However,  we do know that no matter how you drink it, a great cup of coffee benefits from freshly ground coffee beans. Grinding the beans fresh releases the oils and the aroma, and hence, the flavor as well.

With grinding in mind, we reviewed the Krups Professional Burr Coffee Grinder Model GX5000 $49.00

The Krups GX5000 Professional Burr Grinder is More Than a Pretty Face:

We’ve reviewed grinders before, but this attractive model is not just a pretty face. The burr grinder easily grinds 2-12 cups of beans using a flat disc that ensures a consistent grind,

What’s Your Grind?

You can dial up options 1-9 for a fine espresso friend to Fresh press coarse grind.

Tip:  if you are using an automatic coffee maker with a filter you will probably want to use a setting around “5” which is a medium grind.

The top of the burr grinder flips open so you can pour in your whole beans. There is a handle on the top burr to lift it out for cleaning from here.

The bottom canister holds the beans once they are ground. It’s a large-capacity clear plastic basket that you can keep in the refrigerator, although we suggest you dump the freshly-ground beans into an airtight holder if you’re making more than just a few cups of ground coffee at a time. This is hand washable.

The rest of the unit should be cleaned only with a lightly damp cloth.

Safe and Efficient Operation:

The large capacity grinder doesn’t take up a lot of room on a counter. It’s just 7.24″Wx4.29″Dx10.4″H.  It’s relatively quiet as these units  go, and grinds the beans efficiently quickly.

Safety First!

If you’ve never used a burr grinder before rest assured that while the unit is powerful, it won’t work unless the lid of hopper and coffee container are in place.  Once started it will continue automatically (not like those cheap little grinders where you have to keep your finger on the button for the duration).

If you must walk away (e.g. to answer a phone call) the unit will stop on its own once the amount of coffee you’ve dialed to grind is completed. Genius!

Now:  do as the Southwesterners do and fix yourself a couple of really cute coffee drinks before National Coffee Month ends!
