One of the loveliest experiences I’ve had as a beauty editor is visiting the Natura store in Soho NYC. The light-filled space and colorful products make you feel uplifted and happy before you ever start shopping. For those who insist upon natural skincare, there’s another reason to consider Natura. The products feature unique fragrances and ingredients from the Amazon, all done with an eye to sustainable and responsible production.
Having lunch in a setting as unique and beautiful as the New York Botanic garden was a rare treat. So was getting a chance to get up close and personal with some of the Natura products.
Sustainable Beauty Panel:
During the lunchtime panel at this Sustainable Beauty event at the New York Botanical Garden also gave editors more insight into what’s going on with creating and promoting sustainable and natural beauty products.
On the panel was journalist Sophia Lee, Sarah Jacoby of Self Magazine, Stephan Kanlian of the Fashion Institute of Technology, and Natura’s VP of Innovation, Andrea Alvarez.
Everyone agreed that clean beauty and sustainable beauty is not just a trend, but it is what consumer want and it’s the future. Natura is doing whatever they can to further this goal with their spa-style natural products and sustainable practices.
Roberto Burle Marx Exhibit:
We were treated to a sneak preview of the new Roberto Burle Marx exhibit once the panel concluded. It is the largest botanical exhibit ever created at the New York Botanical Garden.
Roberto Burle Marx was modern landscape designer who was passionate about plant conservation. The bright and tropical plants are worth a visit!
Natura’s Unique Ingredients
Some of the ingredients culled from the Amazon rainforest include exotics refreshing Pitanga, restorative Patua, hair-loving murumuru, soothing maracuja and Copaiba, and calming Andiroba. There are also some favorites such as acai, and cacau.
See the ingredients that Natura uses and learn why they are good for your skin.
But the skincare isn’t just pampering, spa-style and natural, the products are targeted to different skin concerns via these ingredients.
When it comes to anti-aging products, for example, Natura has CHRONOS Age Positive Skincare (see review) to address skincare in a personalized way that fits your age and your skin.
The body products are also beautifully packaged. Natura works with communities in the Amazon rainforest (educating locals on best practices and business acumen) to sustainably source exotic Amazonian ingredients. The brand even offers some amazing colorful, hand-woven makeup bags (by local women).
if you know Natura you already love it. if you don’t, it’s a brand to discover and delight in.
Hand Creams to Hair Oils:
At the event each table had baskets of Natura products to try. A hand massage with some of Natura’s hydrating products made my skin look renewed. Editors were given a bag of Natura products to try. Check out links to our existing stories or search for “Natura” in our search box).
Superior Soaps!

I liike all the Natura products, but one of my favorites is the vegan soaps (see our 2018 natural beauty holiday gift guide).
The Cumaru Creamy Body Soap is the one in my shower right now. It lasts forever, and it smells amazing almost gourmand. I didn’t realize it until recently but discovered that Cumaru seeds are also known as tonka beans. No wonder the soap is slightly vanilla-y.
These soaps are a hefty 5.1 oz. each to bring bliss and skincare benefits for months to come (they really last and last). They are made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, PABA, petroleum, triclosan, DEA and animal ingredients.
Each soap gives you an explanation of what’s in it and what it can do for your skin (in petite type on the back of each paper sleeve). In our holiday guide we featured a soap gift set but you can find them in the store or online for $10/each. One or many, these unisex soaps make a great thank-you gift for special people in your life.
