At a recent Indie Beauty Event in NYC I met IME Natural Perfume creator Tonia Walker. This charming Australian makes her fragrances from botanicals and other natural ingredients. These toxin-free, cruelty-free and irritation-free set of nine fragrances have a botanical base, and no artificial and animal fragrances, colors, phthalates, parabens or synthetic ingredients. Each is based on a muse, color-coded to suit your personality.
Inspired by a Muse:
A “muse” a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist. Certainly this comes through in the nine unique fragrances of IME Natural Perfume.
Meet the IME Muses:
Perfume afficianados choose their latest and greatest fragrances mostly by looking at the notes, but many new perfume fans want guidance and inspiration to choose their perfect scent. Tonia, therefore, has created nine muses to help you figure out what you’d like to purchase:
- kalliope [driven]
- erato [naughty]
- euterpe [cool]
- thaleia [flirty]
- terpsichore [expressive]
- melpomene [beautiful]
- ourania [intuitive]
- polyhymnia [enlightened]
- kleio [elegant]
Choose a Muse:
IME Natural fragrances have several ways to choose a fragrance.
You can choose your scent by the muse, but also you can do it by the color that grabs you. Of course, you can also check out the primary notes in each perfume, or take the fun, 2-minute- quiz on the IME website
A full 1-ounce bottle of IME Natural Perfume is $78. If you are still unsure or want to try all 9 muses, there is a $63 collection Pack. It includes nicely sized x 2.5ml samples of the full Muse range: If you really want to impress someone with an amazing gift, you can get all nine full-sized bottles for $595!
Testing IME Natural Perfume:
Kalliope:
At the Indie Beauty event I immediately was drawn to the colored (kalliope -driven-courageous-brave). I wouldn’t categorize myself as driven, but courageous? I guess so!
The scent is herbal, spicy and earthy. The stgrong bold scent has warm notes with herbs and spices. along with natural botanical fragrance.
It’s also good to know that all the fragrances have ingredients that have pure alcohol and are grain, gluten & GMO free)
Kalliope Notes:
Basil, Sage, Coriander, Galbanum, Thyme, Tarragon, Carrot Seed, Pine, Styrax, Rose Absolute, Patchouli, Sweet Almond, Rose Hip. it is strong and my first inclination was licoric4e BUT i THINK IT WAS THE GALBANUM (aromatic gum resin ).
Polyhymnia:
For a different vibe, I also sampled the purple-color-coded Polyhymnia (enlightened). Clear and capable is the person who loves this scent.
Polyhymnia Notes:
Normally I like spicy scents and I’m not such a fan of purple. So I might not have selected this particular fragrance for myself. But after Tonia Walker sent it to me for review it really grew on me.
Polyhymnia begins fresh and green but again, galbanum leads the way on to the other major notes including Ylang Ylang, Styrax, Labdanum, Peru Balsam, and rosehip.
Testing out two of these natural perfumes, I can assume all of them start out strong but then dry down to something softer. Polyhymnia loses some of the “green” and becomes more powdery and floral.
However, after considering this perfume for a while, I realized it reminded me of visiting a florist and smelling the scent of fresh-cut “greens” and florals.
The Bottom Line:
There are so many indie beauty brands out there, and not every one of them will find fame and fortune. I believe that IME Natural Perfume is going to be a big winner, especially with those who insist upon all-natural products.
