What attracts you instantly to another person? Some say it’s a smile, but for most people, it’s their EYES. Eyes are not only the “windows to the soul,” they are one of the most prominent features on our face, and the one that probably receives more attention than any other feature, especially during social interaction, For example, when you are meeting someone for the first time or you are interested or attraction to them, you’ll notice that their pupils will become dialated. And if someone is gazing directly at you, you know they’re interested in what you are saying. Did you ever notice that Disney girls, for example, have huge eyes? That’s not by accident. Big, bright eyes, make people perceive you as more attractive.
Recently, it’s been discovered that one more parameter of attractiveness when it comes to your eyes has to do with the size of a person’s limbal ring, and it’s design.
What Is a Limbal Ring?
Everyone has a limbal ring and it’s pattern is unique. It is the dark ring around the iris of the eye, the dark-colored manifestation of the corneal “limbus” resulting from optical properties of the region. Both the width and opacity of the limbal ring are influenced by iris pigmentation and optical properties of the region. A bright limbal ring is considered more attractive and youthful, but alas, wiith age, the limbal ring becomes less prominent, The limbal ring also becomes less visible due to conditions closely related to advanced age such as glaucoma.
Well, of course, technology marches forward, and now there is a new category of of eye enhancement contact lenses that not only help you see better, but help create a more colorful, brighter, and more clearly defined outline around the iris (the limbal ring — also commonly known as “nature’s eyeliner”) — to make the iris pop and whites of the eyes appear brighter. At an editor’s preview event a couple of months ago, I got a chance to hear more about these lenses, and I learned that several types of limbal ring design lenses were currently available from various manufacturers, primarily in the Asia Pacific market.
Now, limbal ring-enhancing lenses will be available in the United States with the launch of 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Brand Contact Lenses with LACREON® Technology by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (available with nationwide as of March 1!). Even better, you can sort of “customize” the effect depending upon the color of your eyes, with iris-inspired designs that have light-effect patterns that add depth and dimension without changing the eye’s natural coloring. A traditional colored contact lens changes the color of the entire eye. These new lenses only effect the limbal ring and they do it in a subtle way.
The natural beauty of your eyes made even better
- A special outer ring adds definition and depth.
- Translucent highlights add shine and brightness.
- Pigments embedded into the lens material for comfortable wear using Beauty-Wrapped-in-Comfort™ Technology.
Cushioned in moisture for extra comfort using LACREON® technology
- An innovative moisture cushion helps to care for your eyes from morning to night.
There current are three different types of 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Brand Contact Lenses that accentuate the eye’s natural beauty by:
- Creating a clearly defined outline around the iris (the limbal ring – also commonly known as “nature’s eyeliner”) to make the iris pop and whites of the eyes appear brighter
- Using iris-inspired designs that have light-effect patterns that add depth and dimension without changing the eye’s natural coloring
- Three style options ranging from least noticeable to more noticeable (all available in plano (non-‐correction) and vision correction ranges)
How does Johnson & Johnson, the manufacturers of these unique, 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Brand Contact Lenses, do it? Well, the limbal ring soft contact lenses enclose the pigments within the lens matrix that provide additional features to the iris. They are designed to add greater definition to the limbus and make the iris look larger.
I got a chance to try out these Johnson & Johnson Vision Care 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Brand Contact Lenses for ourselves, based on close to my actual prescription. These are disposable lenses — you aren’t going to wear them more than once. I am one of those very unlucky people who simply can’t manage contacts for any length of time, but I did manage to wear these home, and for a few hours after the event. As lenses go, they were quite comfortable. They’re crafted to be that way, with an innovative moisture cushion that helps keep the lenses comfortable all day, and they also has vision correction for long or short-sightedness, plus UV-blocking technology to help protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. I’d still wear good sunglasses, but it’s nice to know that Jonhson & Johnson Vision cares enough to put this detail into their lenses.
Here is a photo of me wearing one of the lenses in my right eye, the other is just my eye. WOW! You can really see a difference! The other photos are of models showing how the various lenses look.
