Traditional lip bullets can melt in the heat, but lip stains and glosses in tubes fare better. NYC New York Color’s Smooch Proof Liquid Lip Stain ($2.99) in a wanded tube gets two thumbs up for great color, great coverage, moist feel, and buildable to bold color that lasts (up to four hours). I tried the bold red on the end called “Get Noticed.” One swipe gives you a bold red that really makes a statement.
If you want a bit more moisture however, you can also swipe on another long lasting lip product (or just use it on it’s own): NYC New York Color’s Expert Last Lip Lacquer ($3.99). The wanded tube slicks on intense color and a moist formula that isn’t too shiny or sticky. For red lovers, Rockaway Ruby is the color to choose, but the pinks are pretty for Summer, too, or try earth tones and berries. Tip: Neither of these products is 100% “kiss proof” so blot before you lock lips to keep him from bringing home a souvenir from your smooch session that he has trouble removing!
The Advice Sisters Like BB Creams year-round, but in the Summer, if you don’t feel like wearing a ton of foundation, a BB cream can be just what you need. The NYC New York Color Smooth Skin BB Creme Instant Matte ($3.99) is in a 1 fl. oz. tube that is just perfect for travel and purse, and it offers a mattifying look to your face that lasts, even if it’s hot, or you’re dancing, or flushing. It comes in Light or Medium (I tried the light and it was quite light, but blend-able). It blurs the look of imperfections and fine lines, and brightens your skin tone. It doesn’t have SPF (I can’t tell what other skin-loving ingredients are in the BB), so you’ll still have to apply some before you go out. But this dermatologist-tested BB cream keep skin looking cool and fresh, and at just 1 fl. oz. it’s perfect for travel. Follow up if you wish with a pressed powder for touch-ups. The NYC New York Color Smooth Skin Radiance Perfecting Powder ($3.99) comes in Naturally Beige or Warm Beige. A crescent-shaped sponge is included to apply the velvety powder. If your skin is dry or flaky, apply some additional BB cream or moisturizer, first. The lightweight plastic compact is a perfect purse and travel companion.
No matter how pricey and prestigious your eye shadow is, it’s going to crease in the heat. But The NYC New York Color 24 Hour Waterproof Eye Shadow ($2.99) comes in chunky crayon sticks that really last. The intense pigment slides on nicely and can be blended, used as a liner or a shadow. I also love these for travel, because they have a retractable feature. Twist them up for use, down when you’re not using them. There are a bunch of fun shades, but for Summer I really like “East River Romance,” a bold, bright turquoise that made me feel a bit like Cleopatra when I circled my eyes with it. These are lots of fun to play with, and so inexpensive you can buy a bunch!
Do you need a new mascara? NYC New York Color Big Bold Angel Lash Mascara ($4.99) is new. The mascara gives you darker, thicker lashes, but without a lot of heaviness. Two coats are all you need to show off your eyes in a hurry. The curved brush grabs even the tiniest lashes and coats them quickly, making even thin, blonde lashes (like mine) look thicker and more intense. As long as you’re purchasing a stash of products from NYC New York Color, it makes sense to buy a new mascara as well, especially since you really should replace your mascara every six months or less (and how long have you been using the mascara you applied, today?). This mascara doesn’t claim to be super-super long lasting, so it probably won’t last through a heavy crying session, or a lot of sweating, but on a daily basis it will perform, perfectly.
