NYFW Runway Report: Malan Breton
by Tashieka Brewer for advicesisters.com
Malan Breton has outdone himself again with a collection filled with flora black prints, transparent flora flow dresses, butterflies and Taiwanese fibers.
Breton’s Spring/Summer 2017 show opened with an inspirational dance performance from the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company that depicted a fisherman paddling along a symbolic river.
Drawing inspiration from the flora and fauna of Taiwan’s Orchid Island, the poetic spirit of water could be felt in each step as the models cascaded down the runway.
Dancer and You Tube personality, Frankie Grande made a huge splash hitting the runway in a stunning fringe leather jacket. Guided by the beat of tribal drums; fresh faced models rocked pre-Raphaelite styled waves, boldly penciled brows, shimmery eyes and soft pink cheeks that made their pink lips pop against the flowing pieces that were deeply rooted in forest influenced tones.
A magnificent visual art presentation; beaded bracelets from the indigenous Taiwanese Tao tribe, hand painted leather belts and white jade pendants offered the perfect accents to the collection’s silk dresses, skirts and embroidered suits.
Reality star, NeNe Leakes closed the show in a breathtaking sheer black beaded million dollar gown that was the perfect complement to all of the greatness that Breton projected in a red embroidered suit.
Breton’s fashionable interpretation of elements found in Taiwan’s natural landscapes and traditional festivals left me yearning to experience more of the mystical beauty of Taiwan.
Backstage Beauty Hair:
The inspiration for the show was a mix between the 1970’s and the 1920. Hair Lead Vivienne Mackinder for Joico created two distinct styles that brought these decades to life.
Look 1: Vivienne created a more structured style with a twist braided into a sleek ponytail, capturing the essence of the ’70’s.
Look 2: Vivienne pulled the 1970s through with a bohemian style that had a 1920s wave. She waved the hair with a flat iron and tied it back for a whimsical effect for a sexy, pretty, and ethereal style.
