Last year, one of the covet-able prizes on RuPaul’s Drag Race,(on VH1 and Logo), was a lifetime supply of NYX Cosmetics. At the time, I assumed NYX was for drag queens, because the show is a competition of drag queens and NYX is what they were using on the show, But I was curious, and when I finally tried some of the products, I instantly became a huge fan (and trust me, I’m no drag queen)!
NYX was named after the ancient Greek goddess who ruled the night, founded in 1999 by a young entrepreneur name Toni Ko who developed the original products for her discerning friends. The thing about NYX that I love, is that while NYX may not be as well known as some of the showier brands, it really has superior products. As I try new ones, I get more and more excited about their performance and beauty. And another thing to love about NYX Cosmetics is that they have really reasonable prices! If I didn’t know that NYX was inexpensive, I would assume it was a crazy-fabulous-luxe boutique brand sold in Barneys. But the good news is that anyone can get NYX (on their website). Get your beauty fix at NYX, and you’ll still have plenty left over for a night at the club.
The product I’m loving right now from NYX, is their Plump it Up Lip Plumper ($6.00). There are nine colors, from sheer and just glossy, to bold, to super-shimmery, and each shade acknowledges well known sensual celebrity lips such as Angelina Jolie (she represents a sheer, shimmery gold). My new favorite is “Jessica,” a sparkling warm rose with tiny bits of parti-colored glitter that add lots of pouty sheen to lips. I also like “Lindsay,” a shimmery pink that is almost all shimmer. For those who really don’t like shimmery shades, try “Elizabeth,” a creamy pink nude that is totally on trend for Fall 2011.. One swipe and your lips look pouty as they reflect the light. Quickly, your lips begin to tingle (not so much it is annoying but enough so you know it’s working), and you can really see a modest transformation from dull, thin lips, to shiny, sexy, pouty ones. I really can’t believe these cost about the same as a simple sandwich!!!
NYX also has a whopping ten different lip gloss palettes, featuring moisturizing, long lasting, gorgeous lip glosses. You pay just $8.00 for five silky, long-lasting colors that can be blended together for your own unique look. My pick for Fall 2011 is “Red Rediscovered because so many people have trouble finding a red they really like. This palette provides six truly wearable shades of red in warm and cool (but mostly neutral) tones, ranging from a bright, red-orange (it is actually more red than it appears in the photo) to deep blue wine. There’s something for every one’s complexion and taste. With this palette, there are no excuses left for not wearing red. Wear as is or blend one, two, three or more. You’ll find the look you love, promise! The simple, black compact with peek-a-boo top has a small interior mirror and there us even a mini lip brush inside. It’s a true bargain that will pay beauty dividends all season long. If you don’t like reds, there are nine other gorgeous palettes featuring different formulas, and colors from naturals and nudes, to everyday colors, to pinks and even a palette for orange lovers. You will want at least one of these palettes, probably, all of them.
