When you attend an Eric Javits hat and handbag preview it’s a candy store of fashion.
Everywhere you look there is something delightful, unique, glamorous, eye-catching, covet-able, drool-worthy. If you’re lucky, you might even spy Eric himself (he’s totally hot)!
For so many reasons, editors, fashionistas, celebrities and scores of others love Eric Javits designs. Some note-able names who wore Eric Javits Hats in the spotlight were Britney Spears at the MTV awards 2002. Alicia Keys performing at the Super Bowl 2005. Madonna wearing Eric Javits hats and shoes on Broadway in “Speed the Plow.”

Eric Javits’ design work has been prominently featured in numerous films and tv shows. Woody Allen’s “Alice”,”Sex in the City”, “Married to the Mob”, “Bonfire of the Vanities”, “Mr. T & the Women”, “Big Momma’s House II”, “The Stepford Wives”, “Will & Grace”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Dynasty” & “Gossip Girl” just to name a few.
Early in his career, Eric also created hats for the Monet jewelry ads worn by Christina Ferrari. He designed theatrical hats worn by Bette Midler for her concerts and even the Rockettes!
Models on the runway of designers such as Donna Karan, Carolina Hererra, Arnold Scaasi, Bob Mackie, Pauline Trigere and Mary McFadden have also worn his designs.
In 1997 first Lady Hillary Clinton wore a hat designed by Eric Javits to Princess Diana’s funeral. In 2002 first Lady Laura Bush wore a hat designed by Eric Javits to the Queen Mothers funeral.
How He Started
Mr. Javits got his education at the Rhode Island School of Design but designed his first hat for a friend in the late ’70’s who wanted to get past the door of Studio 54. Back then, even money couldn’t really get you in — you had to have “the right look.”
She was ushered in at the top of the line and Eric’s career was born! At least that’s how the story, goes.
His Hat Business is Born
Eric Javits opened his women’s hat business in 1985 and in 2005 he launched the Squishee® hat (you’ve probably seen copies). This hat is a “crushable” that can be rolled up for travel.
