The old saying is that you should always buy someone a gift that you’d want for yourself. In truth, that’s not always the case. Everyone’s taste is different. But I wouldn’t be much of a sporting sort if I didn’t say that for the open-minded, a gift of a terrific personal relaxation device (call it a vibrator, if you must) would probably make a woman’s eyes light up (if only in private). And it’s the kind of gift you can totally justify giving yourself, as well.
Over the past few years, The Advice Sisters have delicately and respectfully suggested a few unique vibrators in our What Works columns, our former blog, and now, on the revised Advice Sisters Web Sites www.advicesisters.net and www.advicesisters.com . Like people, there are literally an infinite number of different sizes, types and kinds. Here are some of the latest to hit the market In the right hands (and I do mean that literally), these items will make life more pleasurable and more fun, and definitely, better:
When I think of the Brookstone stores, I usually think of high-tech gadgets. Now, Brookstone is featuring LELO, a new line of intimate massage items from Sweden, along with a few sexy accessories. I saw them initially at Fashions Night Out during Fashion Week in New York. These unique devices are beautiful to look at as well as to use. Sleek lines, sexy colors, and a unique, “SenseMotion™” technology (with wireless remote) lets you control the speed and intensity of vibrations via movements from the palm of their hand (within a range of up to 12 meters/39 feet).
These “works of art” come in various colors and sizes. However, I have always been partial to gadgets that are small and portable, and for that reason I chose LELO’s Alia ($199.99) to suggest as a gift for your favorite road warrior woman. Alia looks like an elegant, gold-rimmed egg, but one that is Approx. 2.3″ w x 3.4″ h. It has a smooth outer shell that glides gently over the skin and in case you want to use it in the bath (or in a swimming pool or rainstorm–be creative!), it is fully waterproof. It has s 6 adjustable vibration modes from merely a purr, to a much more vigorous massage. It isn’t completely quiet, but it won’t raise any eyebrows if you’re in the other room. The body is made of smooth, soft, body-safe silicone , with a light metallic-coated ABS core. It comes with a plug-in charger (and it holds a charge for quite some time), and features a Li-Ion battery that provides up to 4 hours of use on a single charge (although most people aren’t going to be turning on and tuning out for that long!). The controls are right on the soft side of the gadget and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to adjust the speed and intensity. As if this isn’t enough, the Alia is not just beautiful on it’s own, it comes in an impressive gift box with a LELO Insignia brooch and satin pouch for storage. You get the charger and a (fairly unnecessary) user brochure, plus a full 1-year LELO warranty. This gadget won’t raise eyebrows at the security check points or at your mother’s house, so you can just pop it in your purse for….whenever.
For even morehigh tech pleasure, consider the Lelo Lyla (avg. arp $139.00) with SenseMotion technology. This small and elegant personal pleasure device has 2 SenseMotion and 6 additional control settings (including 8 distinct vibration patterns) that let you literally, control the sensations (and feel them) in the palm of your hand without wires or tricks. The quite quiet, waterproof and rechargeable, lovely Lyla is not only discreet, it can be controlled (by your partner) up to 39 ft. away! Just as cool is the ability to change the intensity literally with a wave of your hand. A motor in the round controller pod also lets your partner feel what you are feeling. How sexy is that?!!! This small but powerful device is going to be the couples gift of the year.
Brookstone has ten different LELO styles (not all egg shaped, but I like the visual of these smooth, elegant, ovals), from long to short, and everything in between ranging from around $65.00 to this one, an 18K gold plated version that costs $2,180.00. Now that’s a memorable way to give a gift of gold, to a woman!
LELO also helps you set the mood with this lovely, $29.00, Flickering Touch Candle, It’s made from all natural soy wax, with moisturizing shea butter, apricot kernel oil, pus Vitamin E and a subtle fragrance. Naturally, when the wax melts, it makes a warm pool of massage oil. Set the mood and moisturize your skin! The 5.3 oz. candle has an approximate burn time of 36 hours. The Black Pepper & Pomegranate scent is very light, mostly fresh and a bit green. The black votive with silver cover and bright red ring topper would look at home anywhere in your home, and is attractive for me, too. *LELO also makes a water-based, beautifully packaged, intimate moisturizer for $24.99. .Visit your favorite Brookstone store or click this link and it will take you directly to the LEO sales page on the Brookstone Web Site
Another seriously high tech and elegant line of vibrators comes from JOPEN. Their new, Vanity is their signature collection. This company bills itself as: “the premiere company that produces luxury pleasure products in North America. ” The company was founded by Susan Colvin, the first woman to own and operate an major “novelty” company, and she employs an all woman design team. Women best understand what other women want in a luxury personal massage product. Yes sisters are doing it for themselves!
JOPEN’s Vanity line features intimate massagers in a dozen distinct shapes and sizes — Vr1 through Vr12—so you can find one that matches what you want the best. They’re all ergonomically designed to fit the contours of a woman, and range from slim and sleek, to designs with protruding pieces such as “rabbit ears” for more intensity. Vanity™ is made with premium silicone with a luxurious satin finish that is soft to the touch, retains body heat (who wants something cold next to your skin?) and it’s hypoallergenic.
Vanity features “independent dual motors or synchronous dual vibrating motors” which means two different parts of the vibrator move independantly of one another (and you can turn one off if you wish). The company says the products are very quiet, but having turned one on, it’s not terribly loud, but you’ll still want to make sure you’re alone, or at least in a place where the ambient noise around you is pretty lively. This VR-10 was the one I selected, because it reminds me of the vibrator “Charlotte” made famous in a Sex & the City episode, but this one has something better: easy to operate, powerful and independent, dual motors with incremental speed controls and an instant on/off function (one part rotates, one part vibrates). It comes with an eye-catching, matching purple recharger/110/240 Volt power adapter, and a premium Lithium Ion battery, plus you can lock the unit for travel. The controls light up so you can see them even in the dark. It is 9.5”x 1.75”/ 24 cm x 4 cm (overall). While most of these products are full sized for home use, there’s also a storage bag included so you can take your Vanity with you.
Jopen’s VanityThis particular model seems to be available anywhere from $150 to $250 (it’s actual SRP is $232.00), depending upon where you buy it. There are a staggering number of styles. To find your perfect match, visit the JOPEN website to see all the styles, and learn more
