We really like NYX Cosmetics high-performance lipsticks with tons of color choices (and these really last) Full Throttle ($6.99) is one of our favorite formulas. These slim, silky, matte lipsticks offer intense color lasts for hours and still leaves a hint of stain when the lipstick has finally worn away. “Firestorm” (L) is a bright clear red that works for everyone who loves a classic red. “Up the Bass” (R) is a browned-red version that gives you a more subdued look we like when bright red is just “too much.”

We’re suggesting three of them starting with one of our favorites: Cover Girl Outlast Longwear Lipstick (Srp. $9.80) in “Red Revenge.” This red is clear, bright and universally-flattering adn just won’t let you down no matter when or how you wear it.The color won’t fade quickly, and while it doesn’t stick around quite as long as Cover Girl’s two-step liquid Outlast All-Day Custom Reds Lipcolour ($9.24) the bullet style lipsticks are much less drying to lips. You’ll wear this one all Winter long.

Our Top Red Lip Tips:
No matter what color you choose, exfoliate first, then add a balm and blot it.
If your lipsticks tend to bleed, first apply a lipstick primer.
Line and fill in lips with a clear or flesh colored liner, then apply color. Blot, powder. Re-apply color.
Red Lipstick can transfer to teeth. Go easy on the gloss or skip it. If all else fails, skip emollient lipsticks and gloss and use a lip stain. These are less likely to slide around and stick to your teeth.
Try modern matte for daytime, add gloss for shine, glitter gloss or straight out glitter it for party time. Add a glitter gloss or gel glitter. When your lipstick wears off the glitter remains.
If bold red is too much, just blot it into a stain
Try the duo-red trend. Using a lip brush use one red to line, another to fill (or use another color e.g. blue or purple to line)
For the most precise lip line, use a lip brush, always.
Experiment! You can always wipe it off.
