If you are into skincare at all, you’ve probably heard the words “Prevage” and “Idebenone.”
Idebenone is a stable form of the antioxidant coenzyme Q10. The most prevalent antioxidant that you can find naturally in your body, coenzyme Q10 neutralizes free radicals and protects the skin from UV-induced reactive oxidative species.
Why This Is Important:
The reason we think it’s so important is that it is a powerful anti-aging antioxidant ingredient that helps deal with environmental saboteurs as well as the other signs of aging.
The Advice Sisters remember the excitement when Idebenone was developed by a Japanese pharmaceutical company back in 1986 and then in 2004 when Elizabeth Arden (with the pharmaceutical Company Allergan) launched their premier skincare product Prevage featuring Idebenone, for consumer use.
Why Use Prevage?
The anti-aging skincare market is continually growing and with it, an understanding that anti-pollution ingredients can go a really long way to help deal with the signs of aging.
According to a 2005 double-blind study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, forty-one female subjects, aged 30-65, with moderately sun-damaged skin used creams with either 0.5% or 1.0% idebenone. After six weeks’ use of either the 0.5% or 1.0% idebenone formula, there was a statistically-significant decrease in skin roughness, skin dryness, and fine lines/wrinkles.
Toxic Avengers!
What we like about the Prevage line is the focus on concentrated antioxidant protection for your skin. Within a month of using the Prevage line of products regularly, you might find a real improvement in the look, feel and condition of your skin.
In fact, Prevage is so popular Elizabeth Arden offers automatic refills on its website. It also has powerful antioxidants Thiotaine, Bamboo Isoflavones, a tea blend (yellow, green and white) and Lipochroman 6. The products have won many awards and accolades.
Two Products from the Prevage Line that are Must-Haves:
Today there is an array of Elizabeth Arden Prevage Products from Serums to Night Creams and everything in-between. Advicesisters.com was offered two products from the Prevage line to try: Prevage by Elizabeth Arden Anti Aging Serum and Prevage by Elizabeth Arden City Smart.
Prevage by Elizabeth Arden Anti Aging Serum (review):
The Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum ($162.00 1.7 fl.oz.) is one of the star performers in this collection of anti-aging skincare products. P
PREVAGE® Anti-Aging Daily Serum protects and corrects the look of skin, helping shield it from environmental saboteurs and helping to prevent the signs of aging.
The serum contains 0.5% idebenone (Less than what you’d get in a doctor’s blend), but those who have used it for years swear by it.
The product is unscented and absorbs quickly without a trace. The quirky orange color of the serum sort of surprised us but it isn’t orange on your skin.
The product is generally good for all skin types, but like a retinol product, those with sensitive skin should patch test before using a product with Idebenone as it might be irritating.
Packaging:
The packaging befits a pricey skincare product wth a large, shiny silver outer carton (actually double the size of the slim, shiny silver pump top bottle inside). The all-silver pump bottle is equally impressive and unisex.
Prevage by Elizabeth Arden City Smart (review):

The shiny silver tube has a pump top that dispenses a flesh-colored lightweight lotion that does so much for so little (really)!
SPf 50 (6.2% Titanium Dioxide, 5.6% Zinc Oxide) shields your skin from the damaging rays of the sun, while light diffusers blur blemishes. You can use it as a dewey base for your makeup, too.
But the serious skincare benefits come from the City Smart formula combining anti-pollution and positive UVB protection with a DNA Enzyme Complex™ to strengthen skin. The combo screen out both skin-dulling pollutants and 98% of UVB rays.
you are a City dweller you’ll love to know that the antioxidants in this one can help you deal with keeping your skin healthy, even if you live in one of the most heavily polluted cities.
Most of us are busy, so multi-tasking (and portable) skincare like this is a must-have, whether you live in the big city, small town, or on top of a pole!
Prevage, The Bottom Line:
Prevage is not a newcomer to the skincare arena, and by all accounts, it works as advertised. It’s not inexpensive but not out of the ballpark considering other products in the same anti-aging class.
Ths product could work well or amazingly well for some people and still might disappoint others. That is just the reality of skincare. But, as we always advise, a product works best when your expectations are reasonable.
In other words, any product that isn’t right for your skin condition or issues, or if it isn’t used correctly or regularly for a long enough period of time, won’t show good results. But, for the most part, we think these products and others in the Prevage line from Elizabeth Arden can do a whole lot of good for a whole lot of skin!
