A a reviewer of beauty, fashion and lifestyle products, and more recently and frequently on LeatherandlaceSpice.com, I’ve reviewed a fair number of personal pleasure objects (call them vibrators, if you must). But the round, Revel Body Sol Sonic Vibrator® $139.00 unit comes with 3 tips (additional tips are $14.99 for a pair of tips) that recently arrived on my desk really caught my attention because it is truly unique. There has been a lot of hype surrounding the Revel Body Sol Sonic Vibrator® , and when I received my editor’s review sample, I had to keep it under wraps for a while (this new and improved version of the Revel Sol was, for a time, embargoed). I admit that I got distracted (alas not by playing with the Revel Body Sonic Vibrator® but with other projects) and I held onto this for a while, but now I am free to talk about it. And since the holidays aren’t all that far away, I might also suggest this is a holiday gift idea for open-minded ladies, or for yourself.
The Revel Body Sol Sonic Vibrator® is a unique device and it has features I haven’t seen on any other vibrators. For starters, the Revel Body Sol Sonic Vibrator® is round, where most vibrators take on other shapes, most likely something cylindrical that you can insert into a body cavity. Before you go “ehhh,” consider that (a round ball) doesn’t stress your wrist and hand if you are holding it for a while. Consider the possibilities in prolonged play sessions! And it’s got another feature that I’m sure no other vibrator has — it operates at the frequency of Ohm (136.1 Hz).
What, you ask, is Ohm?
Om is a sacred frequency that is also known as Chi, the Heart Charkra and many other names. It is recognized by many ancient cultures and is considered to be the energy that connects and joins all things together. It’s said that Om vibration promotes your “awakening,” deepens intimacy, reduces stress and tension, and renews your mind, body and spirit. Take it a step further and consider that Om is not a word but rather an intonation, which, is actually made up of three Sanskrit letters, aa, au and ma. When combined, they make the sound Aum or Om. It is believed to be the basic sound of the world and to contain all other sounds. It is a mantra or prayer that practitioners believe can resonate throughout the body so that the sound penetrates to the centre of one’s being, if done in the right intonation.
If there is harmony, peace and bliss to be found in the sound of Ohm. I can’t say that I have experienced it, but what I can say, is that the Revel Body Sonic Vibrator® does provide relaxation. For many there will be “bliss” through the little round ball that brings pleasure when it comes in contact with various parts of the body. It is also completely waterproof, so if you want to play with your Sol in the pool or the hot tub, the bathtub or wherever there is water to be inspired, try the “Suction” feature attachment and you’ll get new sensations. if you use the RB underwater, you can use the backside (the lighted funnel part). With the tip of the piston moving up and down, it creates suction and vibration if you hold that part against your body.
I thought a round vibration would be hard to handle and totally awkward to use, but I liked the design, a lot. But when it comes to operating the vibrator, I still had some issues. Like most of the high end, luxurious vibrators on the market, this one has recessed controls. And recessed controls look sleek, but they require you to either forage around with your fingers until you can find the setting you want without actually seeing what you’re doing, or more likely, you’ll have to remove it from whatever spot you’re using it on to see the tiny little spot on the ball where you can change the settings. This is not unusual on vibrators, so it isn’t a deal-breaker, but it is annoying to interrupt your reverie to adjust the intensity/speed.
This is not the first generation of Revel Body, it is the third generation. This one has removable, quiet -core attachments. They are easy to remove and to clean ( I am not familiar with generations 1 and 2 but I’m assuming that the attachments on this model are easier to handle). These attachments simply pop out from the top and push into the pin. I loved the options — super easy to use them.
The Lithium-ion polymer (LiPo) battery charged reasonably quickly, although I left it in the charger overnight to be sure. The docking station is a round disk which doesn’t take up a lot of room, but the three pin dock was a bit awkward to align with the unit until I got the hang of it. And, the Revel Sol has another feature I really like that you might take for granted it I didn’t point it out. While many vibrators let you use a USB cord to charge the unit, this one lets you use a USB cord, or you can use an attachment and plug it into a traditional wall socket. This dual option is reallly great, because sometimes, your computer is charging other things or isn’t available when you need it for that purpose, or you just don’t want to plug a vibrator into a wall socket because it is visible to everyone who walks by. If you have children or teens, you don’t want them asking: “ooh what is that thing?”
Revel Body Sol Sonic Vibrator® is a clitoral vibrator, which means you’re not going to be able to insert it into any body cavity, but you can roll it around on a lot of different places for a lot of different effects. It has what the company calls TrueSonic® Technology and 10 adjustable speeds. The company claims that there is a 400% greater vibration range – because everyone likes different vibration speeds. Yes, definitely — and the highest speeds on this little ball of fun are really quite powerful…impressively so. But the unit doesn’t vibrate wildly, so your hand doesn’t get the brunt of it. This, I liked a lot.
For those who are concerned, Revel Body Sol Sonic Vibrator® uses body-safe silicone. It contains no phthalates, nickel, lead, or other harmful chemicals. That’s all good, too.
For a bit of “tech speak” on the motor: TrueSonic® motors are based on a linear resonating motor design. Unlike rotary motors, linear motors produce back and forth vibration. Revel Body’s patented TrueSonic® technology allows the timing of these pulses to be precisely controlled, allowing the user to determine both the speed and power of the vibrating element over wider ranges than conventional rotary motors. Another advantage of using a linear motor to create vibration is the simplicity and elegance of its mechanical design. Revel Body’s motors have a single moving part that is magnetically centered inside an electrically isolated motor housing. The design offers two other advantages over conventional rotary vibration motors. Because there is only one moving part, the overall system is more reliable. While the bearings in conventional vibration motors wear out quickly, TrueSonic® motors show no wear after hundreds of hours of operation. By isolating the device from the moving component, less vibration is passed along to the hand, resulting in a more comfortable experience than products containing conventional vibration motors.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, the company also claims that the Revel Body Sol Sonic Vibrator® is the not just the most reliable battery-powered vibrator on the market, it also has reduced noise level at just a faint whisper. While I’d agree that Revel Body Sonic Vibrator® isn’t going to wake the neighbors, it isn’t whisper quiet, either. Nose-level-wise, I honestly wouldn’t think it’s quiet enough to use next to your parent’s room when visiting, or if you have a baby that tends to be a light sleeper close by.
Most instruction manuals for intimate toys are not for adults, they are for aliens. You might as well scratch your head, then figure out the directions by intuition. The Revel Body instruction booklet, however, was fairly user-friendly — meant for real human beings to read and understand.
