I’m always in search of a better hair tool, one that will magically transform my frizzy hair that won’t stay where I want it, into sleek, shiny, bouncy waves that fall just right. Maybe it’s just a dream, but I keep looking, and hoping, and dreaming. Technology marches on and heat styling tools improve too, such as a bunch of totally affordable heat stylers from Revlon, from their Revlon CurlStay®and SmoothStay®, and VolumeStay® hair tools Collections.
These give you high tech tools that help you style and they won’t ruin your hair in the process. These styling tools are Titanium-plated, transferring heat faster than most materials and locking desired styles in place for hours at a time without becoming flat or lifeless. Faster heat transfer also allows you to achieve your look instantly with fewer passes and less damage to the hair. Furthermore, Titanium produces the ions needed to lock in natural moisture and prevent frizz, resulting in shiny, healthy-looking styles. It provides one of the smoothest surfaces available, so you can obtain your favorite look without annoying snags to the hair.
CurlStay® curling irons and SmoothStay® straighteners come in various sizes while the VolumeStay® Hot Air Brush comes with 1” and 1½” barrels for complete styling flexibility. And just because it’s fun, Revlon made these tools in shades of pink and blue…who doesn’t like a hot pink styling tool?!
I couldn’t resist trying one of these fun beauties, so I selected the one I thought would be the most versatile — the Volume Stay 1200 Watt Titanium Hot Air Styler with 1″ & 1 ½” Titanium Thermal Brush Attachments to create curls and waves without frizz. The brush also adds shine as it works. I love appliances that let you do more than one thing with them and this one, really does. You can spot dry, and add curls or waves with two different sized wands.
If you have frizzy hair, you most likely have to dry it, then flat iron it, before trying to curl it or add waves back into it. Otherwise, the frizz just sits on top of your head and those waves, mocking you. But if you flat iron first, it’s a lot of work and not so great for your hair. A styling brush lets you fight the frizz while you’re smoothing and curling or waving at the same time. And a styling brush gives you a lot more control, too.
What captivated me about this particular styling tool and that made me want to try it is that while I love heat styling brushes, the barrels are usually one, fixed size. With this tool, you get three options: a concentrator attachment to help you smooth and dry bits and pieces; and both a 1″ and 1 1/2″ titanium curling wand-brush attachments to choose from for different sizes and effects of curls and waves. You can change these easily, with the click of a button. I tested all of the attachments and found them easy to add and remove, but in all fairness, some reviewers (on another large site) complained that with continued use, the button that clicks the attachments into place become loose or broke, and then the attachments wouldn’t stay on securely. I have been using this tool for some time and have not found that to be the case, but I would caution that you treat the tool, gently. Use the attachment release button and don’t try to force the attachments on and off.
There are 3 Heat/Speed Settings. Adjust the Ion Select dial to infuse thick, coarse hair with maximum irons for the most hydration and volume (you can use less for fine and normal hair ). White – low- for fine hair; silver- medium- for normal hair; and high-pink- for thick and coarse hair. use the setting that corresponds to your hair type. I generally go for the highest setting but with this tool I really only needed medium unless my hair was unusually frizzy due to the weather or I didn’t take the time to really blow dry it nicely. There is also a nice, tangle-free swivel cord. There is also a cool setting to set your style, should you want to use it. The barrels of the two round brushes are metal and they can get hot, but there is a cool tip for easy handling if you want to change the barrels, mid styling session (obviously you don’t’ want to handle a hot metal styling brush). There is also a one year limited warranty.
The key to getting great results with any heat styler is to be patient and take small amounts of hair to style at a time. If you section out your hair and are systematic, you can smooth/curl/wave your entire head in less than five minutes (I mean, this, really). Although your hair style may not look quite like it is a salon-quality blow-out (unless you are highly skilled), for somewhere between $17.00 and $25.00 these tools really do make a huge difference for very little investment of time and money. They will make great holiday gifts in a few months, but here’s my suggestion: buy at least one for yourself, now.
