One of the most memorable rock events I’ve ever been to occurred last night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. It was Little Kids Rock, an annual benefit supporting music education in public schools. This year, the rocker of the year being honored was none other than the fabulous Joan Jett. Millions of dollars have been raised, dozens of musical luminaries have come out to support, and hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren have received the transformational gift of music education.
I was there courtesy of Citizen Watches, one of the sponsors. Although I just had my cell phone and a Canon Power Shot, I took a bunch of photos of the bands that were performing which included Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Billie Joe Armstrong, Tommy James, Darlene Love, Katheleen Hanna with Ad-Rock, Gary U.S. Bonds, Mike Ness, Jesse Malin, Brody Dalle and Jake Clemons, and a lot of very talented young boys and girls who have benefited from Little Kids Rock. See some of those from my Facebook Photo album, below.
Citizen was one of the sponsors, and although there was an actual auction last night, you can bid for one of Ciitizen’s limited edition Sunrise Watches online if you hurry, because a couple of the watches have already sold. These are hand crafted timepieces created with precious stones and hand painted dials representing five different countries; United States, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom and Canada. Each country’s models take inspiration from nature and showcases that on the intricate dials; daisy – United States, cherry blossom – Japan, dahlia – Mexico, rose – United Kingdom, maple leaf – Canada. Each of the five Limited Edition sets comes in a high gloss wooden presentation box. Each feature Eco-Drive technology, diamond crown, sapphire crystal, genuine crocodile straps and push button deployment buckle. Eco-Drive technology; powered by light. Any light.
