Sally Hansen Mixes Up the Magnetic Magic for Summer!
During the holidays last year, The Advice Sisters suggested a new nail polish that made it’s own, unique designs, thanks to a magnet embedded into the cap. This polish was so popular, it sold out everywhere and literally caused a sensation as an instant, coveted, collectible. Now, Sally Hansen has come up with a more affordable version of this type of Magnetic Nail Polish. At just $9.99 instead of $15.00, you can choose from 8 trendy colors, and get magical, wavy designs, that look like you airbrushed them onto your nails.
The thing that is so compelling about this is that every time you use it, and on every nail, you’ll get a different pattern. And it is so easy to do! Simply apply 1 coat of any base coat (preferably Sally Hansen’s). Shake the Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color to activate the formula. Pull off the over-cap with the magnet, and set it aside for the moment. Then apply 1 coat (it covers very well) of Magnetic Nail Color to all 10 nails and let it dry. Apply a thick second coat of color to 1 nail and immediately hold the built-in magnet over the nail, resting the guide just below the cuticle without touching the wet nail polish (or hold it close to the nail, but without touching it). The instructions say to hold for 10 seconds, but I kept it there a little longer for a more defined pattern. After you do this for each nail, all ten will be decorated with a unique, wavy design. Finish with a top coat, and your look can last up to a week.
Although it’s Summer and pastels and neons are trendy, these colors are on the deep side. That’s because light shades don’t show the curvy lines very well (I tried a silver polish in the pricier brand, and really didn’t get to see much of a design). The 8 shades are: Ionic Indigo, Red-y Response, Kinetic Copper, Silver Elements, Golden Conduct, Electric Emerald, Graphite Gravity, and Polar Purple. I can’t really tell you which is best, it’s just a matter of personal preference. But whether you like grey, red, gold, green, purple, blue, or copper, you will find your perfect shade.
While my test with these polishes didn’t yield quite as sharp results as in the photo, with a little practice I think I’d get even better results. Still, the smooth finish and cool looking designs more than make these worth the price. Try the polish on your toenails too, if you’re limber enough to bend over (or get a friend to help).
For those who love designer nails, but don’t even want to bother with making their own, Sally Hansen has expanded their wildly popular and fun, Salon Effects collection for nails, to include a Salon Effects Pedicure Collection (srp. $9.99). These couldn’t-be easier. All you have to do is find the right sizes for your nails, peel the backing off, and apply the strips of polish. It is just: peel, stick, smooth, with a cuticle stick, and file off the extra from the tip. These, for toenails, are obviously, sized larger, but work the same way. The patterns include: Snake, Rattle and Roll, Toe-riffic, Pink Boa, and my favorites, Strike a Posie (a field of tiny blue and red flowers, plus some green leaves, on a pearly background) and Puppytooth (black and white houndstooth). Sally Hansen claims they’ll last up to 10 days although if you wear tight shoes that rub, as mine did, you might find you’ve lost some of the polish before then. You might get tired of the design before then, anyway, and as your nails grow out, you’ll see new nail growth, just as you would with any polish. These are inexpensive enough to just remove a design and apply another, any time you want. Keep in mind that this product isn’t a sticker, it is real nail polish that has no dry time, won’t be smudged, and won’t budge until you take them off with regular nail polish remover. The Advice Sisters absolutely loved these when we reviewed them (for fingernails) last June.
Since this post is about Sally Hanson and their newest for Summer, this is the season to really be focused on body Hair Removal: Sally Hansen also has a number of very effective hair removal products such as Simply Smooth Hair Remover (under $12.00). While the product isn’t new, the orange pump bottle holds a generous, 13.5 fl. oz. of creamy hair removal lotion that makes legs and other areas where you don’t want hair, smooth (without irritating your skin). What makes this particular product new, is the packaging: a Snap & Store spatula to apply the product is housed on the side of the bottle, in a little recessed “alcove” so you don’t have to stick your fingers in the product. Depilatories don’t smell all that lovely, and once it is on your fingers, the scent, lingers. Sally Hansen bills the depilatory as “odor less” but while milder than some, it still smells like a chemical depilatory. This Simply Smooth Hair Remover works in about 5 minutes (the limit is 10 minutes). Apply it, wait, test, and shower it off. Simple, neat, easy, clean, effective!
