Eyeglasses can Help you to see better, but great ones help you make a statement. There’s a really cool eyewear company called SEE with unique SPEC-tacular frames and reasonable prices. The latest retail outpost is in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
SEE offers European-made frames created in small batches. In fact, at the recent opening for the SEE store in Williamburg Brooklyn, I was told that 100 frames at most are made of any one model. When the frames are sold out across the country the frames are not re-ordered. Instead, SEE gets new styles in every month.
As I see it (no pun intended) SEE Eyewear is designed for those who don’t want to wear cookie cutter styles of eyeglasses. The frames are designed with Mazzucchelli Italian acetate, steel and titanium from France and aluminum from Denmark.
Richard Golden, SEE’s founder and CEO explains. “SEE produces an incredibly limited number of each frame, sometime only 2 per color for each city or store. It really is the closest thing to custom eyewear made just for you.”
Luxury For Less:
Perusing the frames in the Williamsburg store, it was easy to see some of the reasons SEE is different from our regular glasses store.
There are vibrant colors, and lots of quite dramatic and large frames. But the prices begin at $99 for sunglasses, $179 for the core collection of prescription glasses complete with single vision lenses, and the more expensive frames only go up to $399. These frames are truly luxury for less.
The Williamsburg SEE Eyewear retail store is in “hipsterland” but you won’t feel intimidated or pressured. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The Williamsburg demographic might be a bit more into the more avant-garde and colorful frames, but every store gets at least a few pieces of each collection. My eyes were literally darting around, wondering what to try first.
These Glasses – So ME!
I have been wearing glasses since the fifth grade and have had hits & misses with eyeglass frames. Finding the right ones (for me) is as challenging as shopping for flattering jeans or worse, bathing suits!
I went right for the super avant-garde frames, but frames must sit on your nose properly, fit your face and eyes, and also accommodate your prescription. A lot of the super big and interesting frames just didn’t work.
Don’t let the sun sabotage your eyes! If you wear prescription glasses you don’t have to get a separate pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes.
The addition of Transitions means I can wear these in the sun and they’ll darken to sunglasses. Mine are obviously prescription, but SEE can protect your eyes with high-quality non-prescription sunglasses as well.
However, the staff will help you find the colors, styles and sizes that work and that you will love. They want you to leave the store really happy with your selection, not just “ok” with it.
I opted to go out of my comfort zone and get a larger frame than I’d usually wear because I loved the green tones on this frame and the way the color enhanced my blue eyes. With transitions lenses these look amazing as sunglasses and give me a totally different look when I’m inside.
Luxury Without The Rip:
Luxury Without the Rip is SEEE’s slogan, and it fits well. The Williamsburg at 156 Bedford Ave Brooklyn, NY is just the latest opening for See Eyewear. It’s the 5th NYC store. Another SEE retail space will open in Manhattan in the fall of 2019.
