Shaving is a daily ritual for some and more occasional for others. For everyone, a “hairy” issues (sorry I couldn’t resist the pun) is realizing that your razor has hair and gunk in it that you can’t easily remove. A solution is BLADEDTAP. This nifty holder with a suction cup back also acts as a sharpener and unclogs razor blade.
BLADETAPP can save not just money, but your skin. A dull or clogged blade can cut you. Debris causes bacteria, too.
I was thinking about the little things that make life easier for “New Year, New You” features on advicesisters.com. Honestly, dirty razor blades weren’t even on my radar screen. Then I came home from vacation, and was shaving my legs. Ouch! That blade had dried soap and who knows what else in it. I cut my skin and that cut, really hurt.
A day later, samples of Bladetapp arrived at my door. I realized after trying this little gizmo that it’s a little thing that really can help make life easier and safer.
How Does it Work?
The BLADETAP has four features: a rectangular sharpener base (your choice of pink, white or black) and bristles to clean your razor blade at the top. On the back side there’s a suction cup to stick it to your shower or mirror. On the front there’s a holder to store your razor, should you want to do that.
As you are shaving (whatever area that is) and your blade gets clogged due to hair and other gunk like shaving cream or dead skin cells, simply give your razor a few taps on the bristles to unclog it.
Rinse the BLADETAP when you’re done and that’s it!
The bristles worked well in my test with a woman’s Gilette razor. You can keep the razor in the holder or simply run the blade along the bristles at the top. It took me a few brushes to get the gunk out, but even this triple razor came out completely clean.
The sharpening base is just mildly rough, and I was dubious about whether or not the sharpener would work. However, you can use this with any razor because you are simply tapping it in the opposite direction you’d shave on the pad by hand.
I was amazed, but this worked and made the blade sharper again.
The Bottom Line:
Razor blades are expensive and therefore if you can keep yours alive a little longer, why not do that?
The BLADETAPP works with literally every razor blade type.
Consider: If your blade gets dull while you’re mid-shave, cleaning it and sharpening it takes literally seconds so you don’t gouge your skin with a dull blade.
Alas if you have a razor with a large base such as the one in my photo, you can’t slip it into the flexible holder to store it However, you can still clean the gunk out of your blade by brushing it along the bristles.
Do you need BLADETAPP? Definitely, if you shave every day. Probably, if you shave at least once a week.
List Price is $24.98 but the BLADETAP web site is currently showing it at $17
