Sheckys Girls Night Out is one of those rare events that is not just beautifully organized, but one where I have never seen a grumpy person or a long face. Like Fantasy Island (remember that TV show?) everyone is always smiles, all smiles. There is joy and excitement being generated, from the cute guys offering trays of (free) drinks, to people selling everything from from earrings to “erotica,” to the groups of Girls Night Out patrons, trawling for bargains and unique items to buy and treasure. Girls “in the know” come back event after event, and have a great time.
…attend a beer tasting…….
….check out a one-of-a-kind, find, such as the one designer Ru Flynn of Ru Cessories modeling one of her unique beaded and embroidered belts….
…..or let an entrepreneur like Lori Riley of Bath by Riley tempt you with her bowls of brightly colored “hand candies” (these wrapped goodies are actually exfoliating hand treatments)…..
…try a new product or service (the man cleaning rings enticed me with a three-for-one jewelry cleaner that I bought, and love), or get your hair styled by the great folks at Conair or Enzo Milano. Both hair styling booths featured pro stylists with flat irons at the ready, fixing frizzed out hair. Of course, there are plenty of tables with jewelry, handbags, accessories and more.
The formula is simple: offer lots of discounted girl stuff (e.g, jewelry, cosmetics, fashions) all under one roof, and fuel the fun with nibbles and drinks. Sheckys just has the secret to a great time, no matter what you’re seeking….and there are all those cute, cute bartenders and waiters to make you feel even better! Top all this girly bonding with a valuable memento of the evening: the Sheckys Gift Bag, chock full of things you want, from chocolates to beauty samples.
Ah yes, the Sheckys bag! he Advice Sisters have gotten a lot of search engine queries about what’s in it. Each event, the sponsors are slightly different, and each bag is slightly different too. But no matter what you find within, the bag itself is worth the price of admission. In today’s economy, you want value if you’re going to pay $25-$30 (in advance) or $35-$40 at the door, to go and shop (even though the drinks are free, and the fun is self-generated, and yes, the discounts are good). But the Sheckys bags, re-designed, smaller, and easier to carry, are full of products that are still well worth the cost of the event itself. You can expect to find lots of full and sample sized items and if you don’t like something, you can always give it away or swap it. I witnessed two women (both veterans of many Sheckys GNO events) doing just that. Pawing through their bags the moment they picked them up, one found a full sized bottle of hair mousse she didnt‘ want, and she actually made a quick swap with someone else right in the elevator! Instant girl bonding and a good deal for all.
What really in the Sheckys bag? Mine, just as an example, contained over 30 items (even more if you count about a half dozen coupons) in both full and sample sizes, including three full sized Lindt chocolate bars, full sized bath & shower wash, a cute lip gloss, two lip balms, a bunch of femine hygeine products, bath and body products, sugar substitutes, food samples, mineral foundation, hair elastics, …the list goes on and on.
There are events in various Cities around the country, but in New York, it is often in the Puck Building, conveniently located in Soho. Here, even the men’s room is turned into a women’s room. Everything is designed to amuse, entertain, educate and excite women, and it works. If you want to try Girls Night Out (there’s a beauty night out too), here are a few tips to make the night a fantastic, fun experience:
Come Early: the crowds start to get pretty thick in about an hour after the doors open and it gets a bit harder to get closer to different tables selling things.
Wear confortable shoes & carry a light handbag: You will be on your feet for at least a couple of hours, and while there are a few lounge areas, they’re not huge. You don’t want a heavy handbag if you’re going to tote the Sheckys bag around, and perhaps some new purchases as well. There is a coat check, but I generally just bring a jacket I can fold up over my arm.
Bring only as much cash as you can afford to spend. Watch those credit cards and monitor the many free drinks you can have! The discounts and often really appealing and it’s easy to get carried away and buy something you shouldn’t have, especially when your are with your friends and you’ve had more than a few yummy drinks.
Go for the ticket that includes the Sheckys Gift Bag as these happy women did. You can get in free if you are a Sheckys Insider (sign up on their web site or at the next event), but even if you don’t buy a thing at Sheckys Girls Night Out, you’ll leave with a bargain , and feel like a VIP. The Sheckys bag is better than a lot of genuine swags bag given to celebrities at special events.
Go with friends but do also go alone: Dont let the lack of an entourage discourage you from going solo. You will still have a great time and who knows? With all that girlfriend bonding, you might just come away with a new friendship along with that killer statement ring or shawl!
