The July 4th weekend is coming. Want to make a hair statement? You don’t have to fuss. Do it easily, with one of these new and nifty products for short to long hair ,from two of our favorite companies, Redken, and Kerestase.
Blonde Idol
If you’re a blondie who’s used to using Sun-In or a homemade concoction of lemon juice and honey, you’ve got to check out the Redken Blonde Idol hair care system. They’ve taken the guesswork out of lightening your locks in the summer months with their “Blonde Idol Custom Tone.” Their motto is “No Brassiness. Guaranteed.” Anyone who has struggled with hair turning green from chlorine or brassy in the summer knows how important this product could be. There are two different products to choose from depending if you are a cool or a warm blonde. The product also allows you to customize the color based on how long you want the slight color deposit to last by turning the top of the bottle between choices. It then pulls the color from two separate sides of the bottle to mix them. You apply it to damp hair and let it sit for 3-5 min and voila! Beautiful blonde summer hair between color appointments. The line also comes with a BBB spray to “balance, beautify and brighten” hair and a nourishing rinse out mask that comes in a tub and works like a hair mask. The Custom Tone is really what affects the color, but the hair mask and BBB spray keep your newly bright hair shiny and silky smooth. Redken has relaunched/repackaged its styling line with colorful new graphics and some nifty new styling products, too
Redken is also known for lots of pro styling products and they have re-packaged them and added some new ones. If you want stay-put hair that will last you through a sweaty summer’s day, they’ve got you covered. This reviewer tried their new cream-pastes. These work best for short or medium length hair as even the low control hold is pretty rigid. They’ve got both numbers and names, as Redken normally identifies products, so you can figure out what type and what intensity of hold, you want. These are housed in 1.7 fl oz tub with bright lettering. Open them up and simply scoop out the amount of paste you want. #05 is called Move Ability and is useful for some definition without totally putting something in a shape. #10, Mess Around, and #22, Shape Factor, are much more rigid and both create tousled, shaped styles. Short hair is all over the fashion magzines, but if you’re thinking about that “big chop” remember that to you still need good products to create an actual style, and to keep things from getting boring. Kerastase also has a luxurious and effective styling collection that can get you nicely through the warmer and more humid months of Spring/Summer. They’re more geared toward long hair than the Styling Flex collection from Redken, so if yo’re ready to rock the beach waves look, I’d recommend their “Spray-A-Porter.” Unlike some beach wave sprays, this is elastic and not crunchy. It’s also great for pumping up naturally curly hair. If you want to really impress on a hot summer night but can’t figure out how to get your blow-out to not fall flat, try the “Forme Fatale.” It’s a blow-dry gel that adds volume and comes in a squeeze tube. I have long hair and noticed a big difference between the volume of my hair when I used to the gel and when I didn’t. The other one that I loved from the Kerastase line is the “Mousse Bouffante” which comes in a spray can and adds a ton of volume without weight. While the gel is stronger than the mousse, I preferred the mousse because it was lighter for the summer months when I want my hair to be breezy and easy.
