In actuality, the fragrances does start with fruity notes of mandarin and blackcurrant, followed by a heart of floral cherry blossoms (featuring cherry extract from the Luberon region of Provence), and magnolia, and then a base of musk and woody notes. This newbie is a fresh take on L’Occitane’s classic cherry blossom fragrance.
A few years ago my husband and I visited Japan just as the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. It was so breath-taking, a profusion of white and pink blossoms all over the trees that made every city and town we visited look as though it had been dipped in pink icing. And the light fragrance of the blossoms brought butterflies to sit on those beautiful boughs. I’ll never forget it!That lovely memory is made even better when I smell L’Occitane’s limited edition Spring Cherry Eau de Toilette ($42.00 1.7 fl. oz). that captures the fresh and floral scent of the first days of spring in a Provencal cherry orchard, as butterflies flutter from blossom to blossom. You can experience this just about in any area where flowering cherry trees have been planted. But to capture it in a bottle to be savored over and over again, is exceptional.
L’Occitane’s fragrance story on this is that the fragrance is a celebration of the Spring season, “with an ode to the carefree enjoyment of youth’s first love. During Springtime, the cherry trees of Provence welcome thousands of beautiful butterflies, flying with light and velvety wings from blossom to blossom.” Fanciful as the description might be, the fragrance really does fit. The outer carton is a colorful representation of a flowering cherry tree, complete with a few little butterflies. The bottle within is an clear, glass, apothecary-style bottle with brushed pewter spray top, that is embossed with a cherry blossom bough. The light pink tinted juice accentuates the colorful paper label, also featuring a bough of cherry blossoms.
Initially, the fragrance is a burst of florals with fruit, but it dries down to a softer scent in which woods and musk are the stars. You’ll still sense the cherry blossom essence, but then, like cherry blossoms themselves, or a butterfly that has rested for a while and is ready for flight, it dissipates, leaving just a wisp of a beautiful experience.
The scent is youthful. It’s light and feminine, and very pretty. Since it is almost “sheer,” a younger girl or woman can wear it as well as a more mature woman. It might be a lovely first fragrance for a girl. However, if you’re used to significant fragrance that sits strongly on your skin, you may find this one needs a boost to keep it going. Try applying L’Occitane’s Spring Cherry Velvet Moisturizing Gel ($25.00 8.4 fl. oz.) first. I didn’t try it, it has a gel formula, made with moisturizing shea butter, so you’ll get a hint of the Spring Cherry scent along with smoother, softer, hydrated skin. Then spritz the Eau de Toilette wherever you wish! For additional Springtime allure, treat yourself to the Spring Cherry Iridescent Shower Gel ($20.00 8.4 fl. oz.) This has fine, iridescent particles that shimmer like delicate butterfly wings while it foams and cleanses, leaving a hint of the Spring Cherry scent. There is also a scented soap in the shape of a butterfly and a tube of hand cream, too.
Mother’s Day is coming. Treat mom to the trio, or just one of these fragranced beauties. But get them quickly, because they are limited and like the cherry blossoms and butterflies, they don’t last forever.
