Love Stinks was the title song of a 1980’s album of The J. Geils Band. But do you know what stinks even more than unrequited love? Our world! It’s a smelly place! Whether you live in an urban environment or far away from everyone, smells you may not like are all around you. When I lived in New York, I used to enjoy rainy days because they washed the smell off the City streets. However, you do have some control over how and what you smell, at least at home. This story is about ways to scent your world so it smells how you want it to! All of these fragrance products make super fab gift ideas, too.

Scents for Bath and Body:
A good bath and body scent can make your day just a little bit better or your evening, more tranquil. That’s why I love LadyBird. This is an eco-friendly family-owned small business in Arizona and their fragrances are quite beautiful. One way to scent your day is with Body Scrubs and Scented Soaps. LadyBirds’ American Lavender Brown Sugar Scrub and American Lavender Cocoa Butter Soap Bar are richly scented and are very luxurious. You might also appreciate the fact that their products are made with only non-toxic food-grade ingredients to keep their products safe and gentle. Most of us can get on board with that!
Exfoliating your skin and scenting your shower at the same time is lovely. The LadyBird 4 oz Body Scrub (the lavender is great but the Kona Coffee is almost like drinking a freshly brewed cup when you smell it). These are $34.68 each for 4 oz. and housed in a glass, screw-top jar with a cute little ladybug logo on the top.
One thing I didn’t realize until I checked out all the details is that you can use this brown sugar scrub is so gentle you can even use it as a makeup remover. If you wear long-wear lipsticks, you can slough off the residue in the shower (don’t forget to use a moisturizing lip balm afterward). The bar soap has all sorts of moisturizing oils such as coconut, rice bran, and grapeseed, plus lavender essential oil that really smells like a lavender field in your shower. The little ladybug design is even embossed into the soap. If you’re looking for a good stocking stuffer, the LadyBird bar soaps are just $15.98 and nicely wrapped. A Very Classy, Classic Candle:
ILLUME candles come in all shapes, colors, sizes and scents. A classic candle in a beautiful votive can make your world smell at lot more lovely. ILLUME’s luxurious products have a worldwide market and are available in 4,500 specialty and department stores. Furthermore, All ILUUME candle and fragrance products are responsibly manufactured, vegan, and cruelty-free. There are a lot of different styles to choose from, but I selected “Woodfire.” I was literally blown away by the way it looked and smelled.
The pretty outer carton has wheat stalks and butterflies with metallic gold touches. But the fragrance combines smoky cedar with a heart to suede and a hint of earthy amber. It reminds me of my woodstove on a cold night, or having drinks by the fireplace at a luxurious ski lodge. The ivory plant-based candle is nestled inside an 8.3 oz. gorgeous sparkly crackle glass brown votive that glistens in the light even before you light the candle. This candle is so beautiful inside and out, I may have to get the reed diffuser too. FYI: ILLUME will be having some last-minute just in time for Christmas sales. I’m sure the gazillion other scents and candles at ILLUME are gorgeous as well. Get them at https://illumecandles.com/

Scent Yourself With These Crazy Affordable Fragrances:
You may have to suffer through sitting close to someone with body odor, but that doesn’t mean you have to smell bad too. We received two fabulous fragrances from Good Chemistry that arrived just a bit too late to make it into our fragrance gift guide. Good Chemistry is “designed for Zillennial scent seekers.“
The first thing is that these fragrances are seriously affordable. The website is so user-friendly that there is a look, smells, sounds, feels, and tastes group of photos for those who really don’t know much about fragrance notes. This is helpful for younger people who really are just getting into fragrance.
No “Bad Stuff”
For those who need to know, Good Chemistry products are gluten-free, cruelty-free & vegan, and made with essential oils. If you are into clean beauty, it’s good to know that these are made without parabens, dyes, phthalates, & propylene glycol, and a couple of other things some folks just don’t want in their products. They have also partnered with TerraCycle so you can recycle the whole enchilada when you’re done with the fragrance. “green” and eco-friendly. Good Chemistry also gives back through various charities encouraging young people to become the next generation of scientists and artists. There are plenty of scents for you to choose from, but I selected Queen Bee Eau de Parfum ($29/1.69 fl. oz.) and a rollerball of Coffee Cloud ($15/.33 fl. oz.)
The colorful carton for Queen Bee and the other Good Chemistry fragrances have line drawings of florals and perfume bottles on a peach and mint green background. But inside is a bell-shaped clear flacon embossed with a set of fill lines, the Good Chemistry logo and a beautiful, shiny rose gold topper over the spray diffuser. The clear glass is marred only by delicate sans serif peach letters spelling out Good Chemistry Queen Bee. It’s elegant and pretty.
As to the fragrance The notes are black currant, peony, and amber. It’s a fruity floral that starts out really bright and fruity but dries down to a softer fruity floral. If you love this happy fragrance you can get it in a rollerball for $15 or a Body Mist ($13/5 fl. oz.). Rollerballs are great for travel and your purse. The Body Mist is an affordable way to layer scent or just spray with more exuberance all over your body.
Coffee Cloud also can be purchased in an Eau de Parfum in that super pretty flacon, a Rollerball, and/or a Body Mist (same packaging and prices as above). But this rollerball is a spray, which makes it so much easier to apply the fragrance rather than an actual rollerball. It also has a sleek clear tube with a rose gold top.
The Perfumer and The Coffee Cloud Fragrance:
As to the fragrance, I expected something deep, dark, and maybe like my favorite cup of coffee. But the smell is closer to a vanilla mocha than a deep cafe. The keynotes are bergamot, espresso, and cedarwood but it’s not deep and/or woodsy. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t any tonka or vanilla in there, somewhere. It’s more creamy and soft and I think fun for a date night or when you’re close to someone. It’s inexpensive, and kind of dreamy.
I think perfumers are total rock stars. So I’m happy to tell you that Coffee Cloud is Good Chemistry’s latest fragrance, created by Good Chemistry’s Fragrance Director, Greta Pagel. I’m a little obsessed! Visit https://www.good-chemistry.com/
