When other beauty editors take the time to say how good your hair looks (and you haven’t done anything special, but you tried a few new products), you can’t help but be impressed with the product you tried. That’s exactly , what happened when I tried a couple of products from UNITE Hair Care that were sent to me for review. The products arrive in simple white bottles that honestly aren’t all that exciting, but what’s in them, really did excite me,.
Before I go into specifics about the products I tried, those who need to know, will be delighted with the fact that these are 100% vegan-friendly, and good for all hair types. The products are also free of parabens, sulfates, gluten, sodium Chloride, DEA, and MEA and they are color safe. Since these products can be found in professional salons as well as for at-home use, there are different formulations within the product lines to suit particular hair issues, such as five different shampoos plus a dry shampoo. If you visit the UNITE web site you will see descriptions of the various products, and videos that explain what they are and how to use them.
The one I tried, the UNITE Smoothing Shampoo ($27.50 10 fl. oz) is particularly good for frizzy and slightly coarse hair. It lathered beautifully and washed out easily. The key ingredients are Guar Gum (to smooth and de-frizz), Moringa Seed Extract (to lock in color and with antioxidant properties), wheat protein (to reduce breakage), and Botanisil (to add moisture, lock in color, protect against heat–and there is a claim that it also cuts blow-drying time). Normally, when I think about de-frizzing products, I guess that they’ll tame the frizz, but also make my hair greasy. Imagine my surprise when I washed my hair Thursday morning, and on Sunday night I realized that my hair was still reasonably clean looking.
I’m not suggesting you go days without washing your hair, but if you generally feel your hair is so limp and full of product you can’t stand how it looks or feels, UNITE will make you very, very happy. And that’s even after apply the detangling and smooth 7SECONDS leave in detangler/ conditioner ($26.25 8 fl. oz). This product is supposed to be a leave-in conditioner that also detangles in just seven seconds (it did). 7Seconds is a UV and thermal protectant, too. It is also apparently a favorite cutting tool for stylists and a favorite product of Eva Longoria (and we all know how lovely her hair is)!
In my first test of UNITE, I initially used the 7Seconds product instead of the Smoothing Conditioner. I was initially worried that two conditioners and one shampoo would be too much. The the next time I used the Smoothing Conditioner ($29.95 10 fl. oz). This, you have to wash out, but it also has Panthenol to help condition, add shine and de-frizz, plus Moringa Seed Extract and Botanisil. While your hair, depending upon how coarse and frizzy it is, can benefit from both, I actually preferred the slightly less expensive 7Seconds, mostly because it is a multi-tasker, it’s in a pump, you don’t have to wash it out, and I loved the way my hair looked and felt. But traditionalists will also love the Smoothing Conditioner. As to the Smoothing Shampoo? Well, now it’s my newest favorite!
Advicesisters Bonus: Bad hair days happen to everyone, regardless of the products or effort put into it. Sometimes, it’s just your body chemistry saying “Nuh-uh you are not going to be glamorous today.” If you want to try something new, without paying for a salon visit, here are three styles that are innovative, easy to create at home, and work on just about anyone:
Slicked Back: The key to this look is gel. Using a light-hold gel, apply to damp strands combing halfway through and leaving ends dry. Try UNITE Hair Liqua Versa Gel ($26.25).
High Ponytail: Pump a volumizing spray throughout hair and blow dry. Try UNITE Hair Boosta Spray ($26.25). Next, brush hair high up at the crown, securing with a clip or with a hair tie. Use a strong hold hairspray, such as UNITE Session Max Hairspray ($29.95) to control flyaways.
Topknot Bun: On air dried hair, apply a thickening spray from root to end, try UNITE Tricky Lite ($31). Then flip head over and using a paddle brush, pull hair into a high ponytail, securing with a rubber band. Next, twist hair into a bun, using bobbi pins to keep hair in place.
Beauty Bonus: The hottest hairstyle this week was the topknot bun. Seen on celebrities like Ashley Simpson and Kaley Cuoco, this ballerina-inspired updo has quickly become an effortless and chic look for celebrities and real women, alike. Here are steps on how you can easily re-create this look at home using UNITE products:
- Step One: On air-dried hair, apply a thickening spray from root to end, such as UNITE Tricky Lite ($31).
- Step Two: Next, flip head over and using a paddle brush, pull hair into a high ponytail, securing with a rubber band.
- Step Three: Twist hair into a bun, securing with bobby pins to keep hair in place.
- Step Four: The key to this look is making sure there are no flyaways, so smooth hair from the nape of the neck up and around the hairline by spraying a brush with a strong hold hairspray and brushing hair into place. Try UNITE Session Max Hairspray ($29.95).
