What is Sulwhasoo?
Sulwhasoo is one of the beautiful skin care brands of Amore Pacific.
I am offering this review separate from my other Amore Pacific Products review (Laneige, IOPE and Amore Pacific) because this brand embodies Asian Philosophy–it’s very special!
Sulwha means “as a beautiful snow blossom on the skin.’
Amore Pacific added “Soo” which means ‘exceptionally beautiful,’ to Sulwha.
Sulwhasoo focuses on mind and body using a mixture of Korean medicinal herbal extracts, treating skin issues caused by lack of “Yin energy.”
Sulwhasoo’s signature ingredient is “Jaeumdan.” Out of 20,000 plants, ultimately five medicinal herbs were found to work in synergy as a yin supplement in Jaeumdan (including Peony, Solomon’s seal, East Indian lotus, white lily and adhesive Rehmannia).
These are enhanced with “Jaeumboweedan” containing extracts of seven medicinal herbs, to achieve a yin-yang balance.
What Does This Mean For Your Skin?
You get the benefits of Asian principles with botanicals and biotech. Popular in Asian Brands, there is also ginseng!
Benefits of Ginseng:
Ginseng is most often included as an anti-aging ingredient in facial moisturizers to fight wrinkles (ginseng can boost skin-firming collagen).
The herb also acts as a whitener, giving the skin a brighter and more youthful appearance.
Korean Ginseng, as used in Sulwhasoo formulations, has significantly more saponins than other types and helps to regenerate, and offer anti-aging and antioxidant effects.
Ginseng also has a natural ability to balance oils making it good for both oily and dry skin.
Sulwhasoo’s Packaging:
Sulwhasoo uses exquisite packaging to delight the senses, as well as work wonders on your skin.
The mirrored compacts which hold a variety of SPF 50+ products, for example, hae enameled-like tops that are elegant, but they’re also practical and travel-friendly.
If you read my review on Amore Pacific’s Brands you already know about the unique cushion compacts featured in Sulwhasoo, Iope, Laneige and Amore Pacific brands.
The sponge-y cushion membrane in these cushion compacts keep the semi-liquid CC, BB, and foundations in the compact until you depress the cushion.
A “Dynamic Fluid Capture System Technology” transforms liquid into a refined emulsion, applied with a non-absorbing Air Cell puff applicator. There is even a refill making your purchase an extra value!
They can’t spill. Tote one of these lightweight beauties into a purse to touch up during the day!
Sulwhasoo Products:
A top seller for the brand is the Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream, concentrated ginseng anti-aging cream.
I tried the Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream EX Light ($240.00 2.02 fl. oz).
This product has a lighter gel-type texture than the original cream so it absorbs quickly, leaving just a hint of a silky layer on your skin.
The formula has extracts of the root and fruit of Korean Ginseng.
The Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream arrives in a hard-sided copper cardboard presentation box.
Nestled inside is a heavy glass jar coated in gold, with an unusual plastic amber tinted topper. It is lovely to hold. Be mindful and then apply the product with the included spatula.
I prefer oxygen-free pumps but I’ll give Sulwhasoo a pass for this beautiful presentation.
Sulwhasoo promotes skin care rituals, but if you’re in a hurry, use this product morning and evening, patting not rubbing to apply the product to your skin.
Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Intense with Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($80) has actives of Octinoxate, 4.15% Titanium Dioxide and 9.8% Zinc Oxide)and a bronze-y cover reminiscent of Korean Brassware,
The product has red pine extract (from Sulwhasoo’s Timetreasure line ) for glowing, firmer skin plus anti-oxidant plum blossom extract.
The final touch is a translucent glow thanks to Sulwhasoo’s unique Radiance Pearl Powder Complex.
The key to success is selecting the right color (there are 7, in tones of pink and beige from very light to moderately deep). Still, the semi sheer formula is “forgiving.”
I tried No 17 (light beige) and No 23 Medium Beige. Both worked.
Perfecting Cushion SPF 50+ 1.05 fl. oz. $65.00 has a beautiful off white cushion compact with gold accents.
The formula has actives of 7% Octinoxate, 4.15% Titanium Dioxide and 9.8% zinc oxide) portable, lightweight cushion foundation that goes beyond long-lasting coverage with a flawlessly satin, soft matte finish.
This is a foundation (not a BB or CC cream) available in 7 colors in pink or yellow/beige tints. No 13 Light Pink which worked well on fair/medium fair skin. No 23 (Medium Beige) had a yellow cast to it.
I tried No 13 Light Pink which worked well on fair/medium fair skin. No 23 (Medium Beige) had a yellow cast which didn’t work so well for me, but if that’s your skin-tone it would be perfect.
There are skincare benefits including a moisturizing blend of apricot seed and Korean herbs and Sulwhasoo’s anti-aging formula with red pine extract to enhance skin firmness and density and to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Magnolia extract brightens skin, and Sunwhalsoo’s Pearlescent Complex of extra-fine pearl powders adds instant luminosity. Purified water with licorice extract helps purify skin to make it look clearer and cleaner.
The formula disperses color into water (not oil) while a film-fixing polymer helps the product last on your skin up to 12 hours (but you will want to touch up during the day to continue SPF protection).
How to use: Use a puff to press into the cushion firmly to pick up foundation. Starting from the middle of the face, pat the products outwards Layer as needed.
