You don’t wear the same clothing year round, so why would you use the same skincare? In the cooler months dry heat, cold, and wind can make your skin extra dry, and your skincare should be more emollient to counteract the dryness, However, when the weather heats up, your skin requires lighter but still effective products and also more sun protection. These budget-friendly products will lighten up your life and your skincare routine!
Lighten Up Skincare and SPF:
CeraVe is one of my personal favorite skincare brands. The products are good for all skin types, are extremely effective, and are amazingly affordable.
Along with a complete line of skincare products that contain ceramides to help restore the skin’s natural protective barrier, CeraVe has excellent sunscreens with a range of SPF products.
The CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion and CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion are a blend of both mineral and chemical sunblocks but today I’m reviewing the new CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen.
Not everyone’s skin can handle chemical sunblocks and most SPF users prefer non-oily formulas. CeraVe Hydrating Sunscreen is an oil-free formula that offers hydration with three essential ceramides that help restore the skin’s natural barrier and lock in moisture.
Even if your skin is dry and irritated, CeraVe will help replenish and moisturize your face and your body.
These CeraVe sunblocks are good for all skin types (they have a seal of approval from the National Eczema Foundation), the products have no chemical filters, fragrance, oil or paraben. what they do contain are the 3 essential ceramides that help keep skin supple and moist.
Even better, these products are available in SPF 30 and SPF 50 in both face (with the addition of niacinamide) and body versions! The active ingredients are 6% Titanium Dioxide and 7% zinc oxide (in the SPF 50) and 5% Zinc Oxide in the SPF 30.
Sunscreens can feel heavy, but not these! They melt into your skin without any sticky residue. Lighten up your skincare routine and protect your skin ( $15.99 – 2.5 oz. bottle or $17.99 – 5.0 oz. bottle.)
Lighten Up Rough Skin & Bumps!
CeraVe also has really good products to help tackle the bumpy and rough skin you might get if you have dry skin and haven’t exfoliated it and moisturized it enough.
Rough and bumpy skin can be difficult to handle but CeraVe has a Salicylic Acid line of products designed specifically for touch, bumpy and cracked skin. A jar of CeraVe SA Cream for Rough and Bumpy Skin and a little patience can truly help deal with this ugly issue.
Salicylic acid and vitamin D help exfoliate and soften. The tub of CeraVe Rough & Bump Skin Cream is very thick and emollient, and you have to massage it into your skin a little more than a lotion, but the results, over time, can really be worth it.
Treat your entire body with CeraVe SA Renewing Cleanser ($13) in a flip top bottle. It’ adds more “oomph” to battle that rough and bumpy skin.
CeraVe Sa Lotion for Rough & Bumpy Skin also gently exfoliates and moisturizes while working hard to soften, smooth and hydrate. You will need the products for a while to see results, In the end, however. these affordable products can really turn that ugly, itchy, embarrassing skin around.
There is also a CeraVe Renewing SA Foot Cream and Hand Cream ($12/each) to target those areas, specifically. However, for most, the SA Cream for Rought & Bumpy Skin $24/ 12 oz. jar or the SA Lotion for Rough and Bumpy Skin ($18/8 oz. bottle) will work wonders.

Lighten Up Skincare for Travel
It’s a pain to bring your entire must-have skincare routine on your trip. Lighten your suitcase and still enjoy a full skincare routine with a really impressive travel set from Good Janes.
Good Janes is known for lashes and lash products but they also have a great collection of skincare. The products are made with naturally derived ingredients and are vegan, 100% cruelty-free and do not contain sulfates or harsh chemicals.
Lighten up with the travel set ($80). It arrives in a clear zippered pouch with 5 travel-sized skincare essentials:
- Say Goodnight – 30 mL / 1 fl oz. (deeply hydrating cleansing balm-not happy that it’s in a screw-top jar, but it has powerhouse moisturizers including cocoa and shea butter)
- Best Face Oil – 15 mL / .5 fl oz. (this is the standout product. Face oils can be tricky, sticky, or just plain icky, but this one has buriti Oil, Alpine Rose Stem Cell and a blend of safflower, coconut, argan, and jojoba oils to keep skin soft, smooth, and provide anti-aging benefits).
- H2OMyGod – 30 mL / 1 fl oz. (this moisturizer is great and absorbs fast)! The skin loving bennies are a melange of peptides, Vitamin C, Daisy & Rose extracts, Licorice extract, and apple stem cells. Alas, it’s in a screw-top jar, but the product is really good).
- Eye Swear – 9 mL / .3 fl oz. (light, nicely hydrating and soothing with aloe vera, lavender oil, barley extract and a cocktail of echinacea, gardenia, and edelweiss stem cells
- Face the Morning – 100mL / 3.4 fl oz. (this is a great cleanser in a flip top tube. IIt purifies and soothes while it foams away dirt and gunk, and leaves skin feeling so refreshed). Key ingredients are aloe vera, green tea, geranium, alpha bisabolol (anti-inflammatory) and Garden stem cell.
I test a lot of skin care, but the Good Janes products are more than just good, they’re really good. They’re effective, easy to use, easy to love, and easy to feel good about. Visit he Good Janes Website
Lighten Up and Refresh!
Lumene is known for affordable yet good quality skincare products. One that caught my eye is Lumene Finlands Nordic-C (Valo)Glow Refresh Hydrating Mist.
One spritz and you feel instantly feel cooler, and more refreshed. The good for all skin types, 100% vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free light mist has Lumene’s own radiance enhancing Nordic-C complex. Boost energy and keep makeup fresh. For that, you can thank antioxidant-rich wild Arctic cloudberry and vitamin C, along with hydrating and pure Arctic spring water.
I like to use this as a pick me up during the day or even outside when I’m feeling a bit drained, The fine mist really feels light instead of soaking your face as some mists do.
*Vitamin C can degrade in sunlight, so keep this in your tote if you’re taking it outside.
At 3.4 oz. it’s not TSA travel sized which is a shame, because this is so great for travel. However, keep a bottle nearby or at your desk (or pack it in your checked bag.
Lighten Up Your Lip Balm:
Moroccan Magic Organic lip balms don’t feel heavy at all. They’re made with Organic Argan + Essential Oils & herbs delight your senses as they pamper the skin on your lips. The swivel up sticks are the silkiest, most hydrating lip balms I’ve tried in a long time.
Get scented: Coconut Almond, Rose, Lavender Vanilla, Peppermint Eucalyptus (energizing & one of my faves), and Manuka Honey, The scents are subtle but there is an unscented version as well.
The Leaping Bunny Certified cruelty-free lip balms are the brainchild of Kristina Tsipouras Miller @busygirlboston. They are UDA certified organic, made in the USA and a woman-owned business. All of this is nice, and it makes me feel so cozy inside, but on the outside, the lip balms really make parched lips feel so much better.
Organic cold pressed argan oil with Vitamin E, essential oils, and beeswax make this light and elegant lip balm a must-have.
A set of three scents ( or all of one) is just $12. Get a bunch, because someone’s going to “borrow” yours! They’re available at CVS drugstore and for more information visit the Moroccan Magic web site.
