The good old days might have had people breaking out in song about the beautiful sea, but what the sun did to their skin while they were waxing poetic, was nothing short of ugly. One style that has captivated The Advice Sisters, and that we just had to wear-test for it’s fun and versatility, is the Lands End Women’s Regular Beach Living Stripe Halter Dresskini Top. This one is a nautical navy stripe Item #438064-A66 ($79.00) available in sizes 4-18 and in regular, petite, long, and plus.
What I like so much about this one is that it’s not quite a tankini, not quite a tunic, not quite a sun dress, but a bit of all three. It covers like a swimdress, and offers the convenience of a two-piece bathing wuite (paired with a swim bottom of your choice), but if you like short dresses or like to wear leggings, it’s an outfit you can wear outside of the beach or pool as well. And the fabric provides UPF 50 sun protection!
The back has a halter look that you tie to adjust to you (Plus sizes have an X-back for better support). The top has a supportive underwire bra with removable soft cups so you don’t need a bra even if you’re walking around town (Plus sizes have an underwire bra with sewn-in soft cups)
I am 5’3″ and I wear-tested the regular swim dress, in size 12. As a grown woman, I didn’t feel quite comfortable wearing it without leggings way from the pool, but after all, it’s really meant to be worn in the water. A younger girl would probably have no issues at all appropriately wearing this as a short dress outside of a beach or pool environment.
The Beach Living® Dresskini™ Top is racy but modest enough to wear just about anywhere, even to the pool party where you really don’t want to show skin, but you have to show up in something “waterproof.” This is the perfect solution!
For swimming you need to pick a bottom to match. Lands End has a lot of different options to pair with their various tankinis and bikini tops. We selected the classic Women’s Regular Beach Living Mid Rise Swimsuit Bottom Item #410006-A64 ($35.00) which comes in a wide range of colors (we selected navy) and in sizes 2-18 (also true to size). The seams are all nicely covered so they feel smooth and silky against your skin. This particular style has modest coverage and sits between your natural waist and hips. Although the swimdress covers this bottom, if you were to pair it with other bikini or tankini tops you own, you’d be happy to know that the bottom also has fabric with UPF 50

No beach fashion article , especially one featuring fabrics with UPF 5o, would be completely without sun protection fashion for the hair and head. Recently, The Advice Sisters were offered a choice of fashionable Summer sun hats from Dorfman Pacific. We chose this classic lightweight cotton canvas sun hat with fold-ab;le 3” brim from Scala Collezione by Dorfman Pacific #LC399. The reason is the it comes in many colors, and it has a UPF 50+ rating, blocking 97.5% of the sun’s UV rays. The 3″ brim is wide enough to protect your face, but not so wide that it blocks your vision, competes with your shades, or makes you look like you’re wearing a lamp shade. In addition, you can adjust the brim to be jaunty, or pull it down, or move the brim in a variety of ways to suit your style.
