There is a moment for perfume fans when you smell something and it clicks in your brain that it is sensational. Tarkine Natural Perfume by Vahy gave me one of those moments.
Vahy Natural Perfume:
Tarkine is an all natural new perfume by Váhy created in 2022. Vahy (Vaa-Hee) means “balance” in Czech. The Vahy co-founders are Kate Macdonald & Anna Weatherlake.
Vahy natural perfumes are formulated without synthetic fragrance, denatured alcohol, animal-derived products, phthalates, parabens, SLS, SLES, EDTA, ALS, PEGs, polycyclic musks, MEA, DEA, TEA, formaldehyde, petrochemicals, and oxybenzone. Therefore, I think the round chart above pretty much says it all.
How Does It Smell?
I have tried a number of natural fragrances, and none of them come close to the sophistication and quality of this one. Vanilla Woods and Spices blend together in a scent that remains on your skin for a long time. On the other hand, my nose isn’t yours, so you might process the notes differently. At first sniff, it reminded me of a colorful bazaar in an exotic place.
However, when I looked up what the Tarkine Rainforest was I got this: “a relatively undisturbed cool temperate rainforest with a mix of rainforest, eucalyptus forest, rivers, mountains, cave systems and a basalt plateau that is still covered in original vegetation. The Tarkine covers 450,000 hectares of land in the northwest of Tasmania which include cool temperate rainforest, sea misted dunes, large plains of button grass etc.”
Just looking at the spectacular photo above makes me want to go there. But now I understand the elements of the perfumes as well. It’s a mixture of green, wood, and pungent earthy spice.
The Actual Notes:

Base Cedarwood; Patchouli, Vetiver (Madagascar)
The Packaging:
The hard-sided outer carton is a unisex soft grey. It’s not just a cardboard box because the sleek shiny black glass bottle sits atop a bit of a platform. Therefore, it really shows off the bottle when you open the top. The bottle itself is embossed with the Vahy logo V at the top and Vahy on the bottle. I really like that the name is subtly added in small gray letters there as well.
