Tela Organics BLOW OUT Treatment Tames Frizz in a Healthy Way

Natural light streams in from large windows, and soft music (french songs, light classical) feel pampering and soothing almost as much as the Tela Organics products, scented with rich, calming, lavender. This is the first official hair studio to offer the  Tela Organics BLOW OUT treatment as a salon service.

There are plenty of anti frizz and hair straightening treatments on the market,  but some are considered by some to be unsafe due to harsh chemicals that have been linked to nasopharyngeal cancer and leukemia.  And even if you don’t get seriously sick, some of the straightening and anti-frizz treatments still can cause nasty side effects, such as burning in the eyes, nose and throat,  coughing, wheezing, skin irritation, and even nausea.  The Tela Blow Out Treatment is not just a 85% USDA Certified Organic keratin smoothing hair treatment, the formula is so natural and gentle that it can be applied to hair without gloves and is actually suggested for use immediately after a hair color service, to help lock in color and enhance the condition of the hair. As you can see, at the salon, my hair is shiny and straight, but I had to go outside. After enduring several sticky subway trips, walking around in seriously bad heat, and then dealing with two days of rain, my hair still looked just about frizz free. But the real test of the treatment is how it looks at home, without the expert touch of a stylist.

 

 

 

 

 

 

At home, as directed, I washed my hair with Tela CURLY Organic Shampoo $28.00  for curly, frizzy or chemically treated hair, featuring  Solomon’s Seal (to rehydrate),  Reishi Mushroom (to restore strength and body), and lightweight organic micro-molecular structures that help repair and restore.  The I applied the Tela CURLY Organic Conditioner $28.00 for dry/curly hair. The lavender aromatherapy in both of these products make using them, a pleasure instead of a chore. Following this, I applied a dollop of HEALER Organic Damage and Split End Repair $32.00, a USDA certified 100% organic conditioner/protectant that helps deal with split ends and prevent color fade, featuring organics such as Shea Butter and Argan Oil,proteins, Pomegranate and Tomato. The final touch was a tiny spritz of REDUCE Sensational Styling Smoother $28.00.  This product features a light blend of Wheat and Vegetable micro emulsions that helps smooth hair without weighting it down, making heat styling faster and easier, and even helping to cut down on drying time. Organic thermal protectants Fig and Plum help fit humidity, while organic Horsetail, Wolfberry, Chinese Giant Knotweed and Reishi Mushroom help protect hair color. and Red Algae plant extracts help filter UV rays and lock in moisture.  Drying time was faster and my hair wasn’t all that frizzy. A final swipe of a flat iron made it smooth and shiny, but not limp. My hair wasn’t completely frizz free or pin straight (I’m not a stylist, after all),  but it was significantly smoother and less frizzy than usual. The next time I washed my hair I got distracted by a phone call before I could blow dry. I assumed it would just look horrible,  but to my delight, I had soft, tamed waves without the usual halo of frizz.

About a week after the treatment, I left for vacation. As I arrived in Anguilla, so did tropical storm Emily, dumping torrential rains and a lot of humidity. I was afraid to wash it, fearing that I would have absolutely no control over the humidity.  However, I used the shampoo and conditioner, and flat-ironed, carefully.  I didn’t even think to bring hair spray.  I ventured out into the heat and humidity, and it began to rain a bit. This would normally make even “tamed” and flat-ironed hair, misbehave, but as you can see from the photos, even with a light shower and a bit of wind and a lot of humidity, my hair stayed sleek.
