What is the one thing that the majority of women say they won’t leave the house without? You might think clothes, shoes, or even lipstick, but it’s none of those. It’s mascara! This little miracle in a wand can change the look of your face and focus attention on your eyes (the window to the soul, they say). There are mascaras in every price point and category, but none of them “live” forever. No matter how much you paid for your mascara, you should probably toss it within six months, maybe sooner if it smells funny or the consistency has changed. And never, ever, share it. Some things are meant to be for you, alone.
Fall is a good time to buy something new. The Advice Sisters have checked out a lot of mascaras, and we have picked out four that we think are worthy of your consideration. Plus, we’re suggesting an affordable product to take all that glamour off your eyes, when it’s time to do that.
Which of these are your favorites?
I love Mally Beauty and the charismatic and glamorous, Mally Roncal. So I knew I’d love her Mally Instant Impact Mascara (at QVC in a DUO QVC Item #A230563 $30.00). This mascara also has an unusual wand with six little “bunches” (balls) of plastic bristles that hold lashes in place so they don’t clump. Add a few layers and your lashes will be seriously long (mine lengthened enough to hit the lens of my eyeglasses). You can’t help but love this mascara that has nylon fibbers that cling to lashes with micro “teeth.” The shiny black mascara feels lightweight, even though your lashes might go from so-so to seriously “faux.” And it is made in Italy, where they know a thing or two about romance! You can get this on the Mally Beauty Web Site or on QVC’. Both are double-deals, as you’re going to want one for your purse, one for home. *Each year, QVC allows customers to weigh in on their favorite brands, products and innovations in beauty with their Customer Choice Awards. And, this year, Mally Beauty has been nominated for ten categories! Add Your vote!
Another mascara to like –in a BIG way, is Big Blink with Argan Oil from Pur Minerals ($20.00). This might be a bit of a splurge when you can get a mascara for much less in the drugstore, but it’s not just an old mascara. For starters, the wand is chunky and has lots of nylon fibers to hold and separate even resistant lashes. It really grabs them and holds on — even the tiny ones that are hard to coat in the corners. You apply this mascara by combing it through your lashes with slow, delicate, repeated strokes. One or two strokes created long lashes, and with additional layering, thicker ones. The black is intense and shiny. And the real bonus is the argan oil, that softens and nourishes your lashes so you get a beauty treatment as you beauty, every time you use it. Major love! The red tube is kind of fun, too! FYI: None of their products contain chemical dyes or fragrances, just pure pigments from minerals. Get yours online at: online at www.purminerals.com
I am a big fan of the mineral makeup of Bare Minerals. One of the products that was a Summer exclusive at QVC and is now part of their “It List 10-Piece Grand Collection” ($89.64) is Lash Domination. Lash Domination is a super-10-in-1 volumizing, lengthening, thickening, separating, long-wearing mascara that has minerals and quinoa protein complex for smudge-free, clump-free and flake-free lashes that look truly lush (claims of volumizing lashes up to 345% after two coats of mascara). I can’t quantify that, but it did make my thin lashes look a LOT thicker, longer and better, thanks in part to a wand is uniquely spiraled 180° to curve around each lash and coat it from all angles. If you want to add this amazing new mascara to your Fall look, the”Intense Black” Mascara is sold for $18,00 on it’s own, now at places like Sephora and Nordstrom. If you’re looking for an entire face re-do, you an also get it as part of the 10-piece QVC set, which comes in a dozen different color choices with everything you see here in the photo, and from light to quite deep. We already mentioned this mascara very briefly in another makeup roundup, but Playful colors in six shades of WINK Mascara ($20.00 each) are framing Fall eyes to make the latest trendy eye looks, from the Butter London Bespoke Colour Cosmetics collection. I didn’t specifically try this “Jaded Jack” mascara, but lime green is not just the trendiest eye color around for Fall, it’s one of my personal favorite colors. I can imagine this on lashes, crowning one of Fall’s trendy green eye shadows, or maybe with one of the new, metallic gold shadows so popular now. At $20.00 it is a bit of a splurge, but like a piece of statement jewelry, you’ll go a long way winning fashion points, and updating your look, with it. More conservative beauty girls can opt for brown or black, but Butter London’s other colors such as blue, indigo and a bright purple-pink make life just that much more fun! When it is time to remove all that mascara (not to mention shadow and liner), a simple solution is a waterproof eye makeup remover, like the one from Lumene Finland. It’s just about $5.99 and available in mass market and drugstores, and it’s easy to use and won’t make sensitive eyes, watery and red. It’s also fragrance free. It has 100% organic arctic linen seed in it. While I couldn’t get a read on what exactly arctic linen seed extract really does, I do know that is supposed to be soothing. My only issue with this product is that while it didn’t make my eyes burn, it does leave a bit of what appears to be an “oily” residue which blurred my vision until I wiped it thoroughly off. But when I tried one eye with Lumene and the other with a much more expensive brand, the Lumene worked way better. It works on those hard to remove, long wear lipsticks, too! Yay!
