Sunshine is magical, but it can also cause premature aging and worse, skin cancer. This feature includes two amazing products from Mary Kay that multi-task to protect your skin and also to provide powerful anti-aging benefits. Also in this feature is a luxurious treat is from the famed Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Their broad spectrum SPF 30 is not just gorgeous, but also offers skin-loving benefits. There are also some top tips for using broad spectrum sunscreen and to keep yourself safe from the sun’s damaging rays If you know someone who just seems to “not care” about sun protection, please re-share this feature with your followers on social media, or just send the link to that “sun slacking” friend.
Mary Kay Timewise
We recently viewed a great new set of anti-aging products from Mary Kay Timewise including the TimeWise® Age Minimize 3D™ Day Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($32) as part of an earlier Spring 2018 article about the Mary Kay TimeWise Miracle 3D Skincare Set.
Replenish your skin’s moisture levels and protect against the sun’s damaging rays with up to 12 hours of intense hydration. Actives include 3% Avobenzone, 9% Homosalate 4.5% Octisalate, 3% Octocrylene and 4.5% Oxybenzone. An additional key ingredient is soothing and antioxidant Nopal Cactus Extract.
Mary Kay TimeWise Repair Volu-Firm Day Cream SPF 30
This one also has sun protection benefits hydrating even the most thirsty skin. Actives are 2% Avobenzone, 5% Homosalate, 5% Octisalate, 2% Octocrylene and 4% Oxybenzone. Increase your skin’s moisture for up to 12 hours while you save it from the sun–sensational!
The products are good for normal to dry skin and they’re oil-free and fragrance-free. My Kay says these are ok for those with sensitive skin. I’d agree just as long as chemical sunscreens don’t bother you.
However, you’re also getting anti-aging benefits, as well because of the fabulous (and exclusive to Mary Kay) Age-Minimize 3d Complex. You won’t feel like a greasy mess, either.

The Blue Lagoon
A visit to the Blue Lagoon is a must-do on any trip to Iceland. The Blue Lagoon has natural minerals that make your skin feel as soft and renewed as when you were a child. I can attest to this as I’ve been there, and done that! Although not everyone can swim around in the waters and apply the mineral-laden mud to their skin, anyone can purchase some of the products that feature the benefits of the Blue Lagoon.
For Summer, treat yourself to something wonderful, the Blue Lagoon Hydrating Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($91/1.7 fl. oz.). This lightweight and luxurious sunscreen hydrates with no hint of stickiness. Sunscreen actives are 10% Octocrylene (UVB protection) 8% Homosalate (UVB+very narrow UVA), 5% Octisalate; 4% Oxybenzone (UVB+UVA)• and 4% Avobenzone.
Other actives include Glycerine: (humectant), conditioning Shea Butter, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder and Sunflower Seed Oil. The SPF is great for daily sun protection but the real bonus is that this cream is formulated with the Blue Lagoon’s unique, mineral-rich geothermal seawater (rich in silica, algae, and minerals). It’s also dermatologically tested and Paraben, color, and fragrance-free.
This is one of the few sunscreens I can use on my face without breaking out. It doesn’t feel sticky and it doesn’t burn. I’m really loving it even though I know it’s a bit of a sunscreen splurge. Gift your weekend host/hostess with it and watch them invite you back next time! Visit https://shop-usa.bluelagoon.com/
Advice: Along with SPF products, you can protect your skin with these top tips:
Skin Cancer Can Be Deadly:
What you can’t see can really hurt you. Did you know that a cancerous lesion the size of a dime can kill you?!
Approximately 5.3 million nonmelanoma skin cancers are diagnosed each year and more than 18,000 people will die from skin cancer. I don’t want to frighten you but I do ask that you become more proactive.
Wear SPF protection every day. Some experts will say that cosmetics or lotions with SPF that aren’t just sunblock aren’t effective, but I believe that at least some protection is offered in ways that are acceptable to almost everyone. So wear something…the more powerful, the better.
Do’s & Dont’s:
Don’t skimp on sunscreen. Most adults need at least one ounce of sunscreen — about enough to fill a shot glass — to fully cover the body.
Do spray your skin until it glistens if you use SPF in a can. It’s also important to remember that a typical 6-ounce bottle of spray sunscreen contains six applications.
Don’t inhale, hold your breath when you’re using SPF in a can. When the weather is windy, you’re even more likely to accidentally inhale it.
Do apply your sunscreen often. No sunscreen blocks 100% of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays so you must re-apply it every couple of hours.
Don’t just apply in the morning and think you’re protected. Uh NO! You’re not. You need to re-apply every couple of hours. If you don’t want to touch up your makeup with SPF, use a translucent SPF loose powder over it. We’ve reviewed a lot of these so just search for them in our search box.
More Ways to Protect Your Skin:
You only get one set of eyes. Protect them from the sun and avoid eye issues later on in life. Wear sunglasses to avoid squinting and crows feet).
Lips need special protection. Use a lip balm with broad spectrum SPF or lip products with SPF and re-apply them often.
Clean products off your face at the end of the day. Remove dirt and oil with a thorough cleanser to avoid breakouts and clogged pores.
Drinking water keeps you hydrated, and that’s good for your body, but it also helps you skin look lovely, too.
Your scalp and the rest of your skin are not protected. Do consider wearing hats and fashions with UPF protection. These fabrics keep you safer in the sun. We have reviewed these items in the past on advicesisters.com so check our search boxfor UPF clothing.
