Things To Be Happy About
#1 LIGHT This might not be a true story. But it could be.

this isn’t the light, but it’s close to what I remember
The earliest memory I have of language is my grandmother and mother pointing to a light fixture over my crib and saying “Light!” “Light! “Light.”
The light was large, white, round…to a baby, it could have been the sun. Every time an adult came into the room, they would point to the light fixture and say: “Light!” “Light! “Light.”
Thus, it’s quite possible that the first word I ever learned really wasn’t mama or dada, it was “light.”
In this new feature on advicesisters.com “Light” is my #1 on my list of things to be happy about.
Why Bother With Things to Be Happy About?
Most of my content on advicesisters.com is about lifestyle, beauty, tech, travel, food, etc.
In times like these, when people are seemingly freaked out and “socially distanced.”
I’m hoping these personal posts will be uplifting and help you feel happy, or at least, happy-er.
If nothing else, the exercise of trying to figure out what we can be happy about is an exercise in positive thinking.
What Makes Me Happy?

This isn’t me. But she looks happy.
I’ve just had major surgery. It’s the third time in the last 1 1/2 years. I’m physically well. but just dealing with the process of healing, physical therapy and of course, isolation. Add lack of sleep and I really am struggling to stay positive.
But with all the negative issues, I’m also forced to consider the positive ones. I’m healthy, relatively speaking. I have a supportive husband and friends. I have two lovely cats that show their love in their own, feline ways.
I’ll be honest, it’s sometimes a struggle to stay happy. So I’m writing about Things That Make Me Happy, and that I think you, my readers, can also relate to.
LIGHT:
Light is essential for our well being. The main source of natural light on Earth is our sun. Sunlight helps plants create photosynthesis and that in turn provides virtually all the energy used by living things.

Visible light spectrum
Light helps us see colors (I’m not going to go into the details though or this will be a very long post. Go look them it up)!
Before we could screw in a lightbulb, turn on a gas lamp, or even light candles, people were able to create light (and heat) from fire.
Why Light is Important:

light from a fire is one of the keys for basic survival
There are so many reasons we need light.
Obviously, it’s nearly impossible for most people to see in the dark so artificial light is part of our must-haves for living. Having artificial light allows us to prolong our daily activities into the dark hours, to travel safely, to extend our reach.
But natural light is special. It’s a powerhouse of good stuff!
Natural light helps to boost vitamin D. When your skin absorbs Vitamin D it helps prevent bone loss and reduces the risk of heart disease, weight gain, and various cancers.
If you’re light me, bright sunlight lifts your mood. In fact, for many people having light (artificial or natural) helps to minimize the depression and sluggishness created by seasonal affective disorder or “winter blues.”
There is so much more to say about light, but I’ll leave it at this: light, rocks!
My Gilded Life:
Things to be happy about really should be on mygildedlife.com. At least that was my plan.
However, for now, it’s on advicesisters.com.
MyGildedLife.com is the name of a website (call if a blog if you want) that is half completed. I am a writer, not a web developer, and I’m stuck!
I hope to get MyGildedLife up and running soon.
Meanwhile, won’t you let me know what you think of this “Things to be happy about” idea? Do you have suggestions for things that make you happy? That you are grateful for?
