Things to Be Happy About #3 Smartphones Keep Us Connected – smartphones rock!
I’m really happy for smartphones. Maybe not happy per se, but definitely grateful that we have the ability to connect to other people with them.
It’s ironic. In the past, I felt that mobile phones acted as a barrier to connection and conversation.
Few of us realize how loud we are when we talk on our smartphones. Honestly, I really didn’t appreciate having to hear all the details about someone’s colonoscopy (yes really happened) or a couple having an angry, expletive fight on the subway.
It was annoying when I saw people talking loudly on their phone at restaurants, the subway, or just about anywhere I happened to be. Everyone’s head seems to be down and not looking at the world around them.
During the holidays, I saw bunches of people standing in front of holiday windows with their backs turned away not even looking at what was in the windows. They were busy taking selfies. Even the kids. Need I say more?
But now, in these times of “isolation and self-distancing,” the smartphone has become a lifeline for so many. It’s not just a way to check-in but also, where would we be without Zoom, Google Duo, Messenger, and Skype?
Thank you Samsung Galaxy S9+ for being here for me! The phone is keeping me connected with my healthcare professionals. But also, the phone is helping me deal with isolation. I’ve been on my phone so much my ear feels tired.
Things to Be Happy About? This week, how about Smartphones? They rock!
