Lately, I’ve been seeing a number of ads for high tech and electric toothbrushes. One claims to be better than the other, of course. This review is about ToothWave, a new type of electronic toothbrush from Silk’n®.
Silk’n says that ToothWave is the world’s first electric toothbrush with patented DentalRF™ technology that cleanses on the molecular level.
It was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, in January 2020.
What Makes ToothWave™ Different?
Silk’n claims that ToothWave is the 1st and only toothbrush clinically proven to reduce tartar.
The “magic” is a strip of silicone and two electrodes that guide electro currents over its surface and onto your teeth. the action breaks up and removes plaque and bacteria – it may all sound scary but the result is an incredibly gentle action.
Also, the company says that that their clinical trials (when compared to an American Dental Association (ADA) accepted electric toothbrush) can provide the following:
Not Quite Ready for Prime Time?
Although ToothWave has been approved for sale in the EU, Canada, and China, and was submitted to the FDA, the final approval has not been given yet.
Hopefully, by the time this review is published, things will be different. I will update as available.
What is ToothWave Really Like?
The toothbrush looks pretty much like any other electric toothbrush. It arrives in the box with a charging cradle and a large and small brush head.
It also comes with a charging cradle and also with a USB Wall Adapter. This is nice, as new devices are only able to be charged with a USB cord, but most bathrooms don’t have a plug for USB.
Battery life: 2 weeks; Charge time: 12 hours–impressive!
Set The Speed:
There are three speeds. The brush vibrates a lot even at low speed. Maybe that’s the tartar blaster at work, but it really tickled my lips and gums to the point that I actually had to hold my lips away from the device.
You will probably want to set the brush at the lowest setting using the smaller brush head (that makes it easier to apply the brush to just your teeth, not lips or gums).
The brush will hesitate ever 30 seconds to encourage you to move to a new quadrant, and the entire cycle is a standard two minutes. However, you might need to work up to a full two minutes if the vibration bothers you.
Claims:
ToothWave by Silk’n makes all sorts of other claims for this device as well, including:
- Cleans and protects the teeth on a molecular level

- 70% more plaque removal1

Does ToothWave Really Make A Difference?
Like every device I try on advicesisters.com, it’s highly subjective to say how good a device is. In my tests, the toothbrush cleaned my teeth very well. In addition, I think it did get rid of some surface stains, but I’d just had my teeth professionally cleaned a few weeks earlier.
After a few weeks I tried again. I could see a real difference both in the color or my teeth and also less gritty feeling from plaque. With regular use the ToothWave really could help to make a difference.
However, everyone’s experience will be different and everyone’s dental condition is different.
I think it’s wise to consult your dentist before making your choice. In fairness, advicesisters.com loves to bring you information about the latest technology.
The ToothWave was sent to advicesisters.com prior to FDA approval as an editorial sample. That said, it’s a unique way to clean your teeth.
This device is not available for sale in the United States yet. It’s selling with good reviews in the UK.
