A Review of Touchpoints To Tackle Stress, PTSD & Autism

October 1, 2017 By: Alison Blackman

theTackle Stress, ADHD Sleeplessness, Autism, and more with Touchpoints

What Are TouchPoints?

The TouchPoint Solution aka “Touchpoints”  is really a novel tech gadget that claims to deal with everything from stress to autism.

Created by Neuropsychologist Dr. Amy Serin and executive and child advocate Vicki Mayo these little gadgets you wear on both wrists with (not included purchased separately) wristbands.

There are clips to let you also put them in your  pockets, socks, or bra straps.

When charged up with the dual-pronged USB cord and activated and using an APP, the TouchPoint devices are two separate units that vibrate slightly and supposedly help you to keep your focus, reduce cravings, improve performance, manage anger, reduce sensory overload, and enable better sleep.

In other words, they help you reduce stress and have a calmer life!

Just a Bit of “Tech Speak”

Let’s get the tech speak out of the way first.

The wrist units use something called “BLAST” (bi-lateral alternating stimulation -tactile).

It’s a neuroscientific approach (read more about this) that supposedly works in about 30 seconds, using transferring alternating vibrations to alter the body’s Fight, Flight or Freeze (F3) response to stress and anxiety and to restore homeostatic nervous system functioning.

This allows you to think more clearly and experience calm.

Your brain is the driver of the functions in your body. It controls your nervous system and maintains homeostasis by sending electrochemical signals throughout the body, coordinating and executing both the voluntary and involuntary processes that maintain homeostasis.

For those who don’t know the term homeostasis it is widely defined as: “a relatively stable state of equilibrium or a tendency toward such a state between the different but interdependent elements or groups of elements of an organism, population, or group”  In this case, to put it a bit more simply, this keeps your body functions in harmony/balance.

Testing Touchpoints

I first tried the “Touchpoints” standing up at an exhibitors table, merely holding them in my hands at a blogger event.

To be honest, I was very stressed out about a number of things. I held the two units in my hand for about a minute.

Perhaps it was the power of suggestion, but I did feel a bit calmer and focused.

So I wanted to try these at home.

buzzies on my wrists

As with everything I review, I have to caution that my experience may not be the same as yours as everyone is different.

But what I liked so much about The TouchPoints is that they are not medication nor are they invasive in any way. So for that reason alone a lot of people will find them attractive to try.

How do they work? touchpoints

After choosing a blue wristband (not included, but there are lots of colors plus a metal band which is nice for guys),  downloading the TouchPoints app, charging the TouchPoints and reading the instructions (easy!) I was ready to try them.

First I had to set the app. I wanted to believe that they worked. So perhaps they did. I didn’t sleep better, but I did feel calmer…at least for a short while.

Was this just power of suggestion or the gentle buzzing of the Touchpoints?  I’m not completely sure, but the bottom line is that I did feel more relaxed and focused for a while.

Two Types of Touchpoints:

There are two different types of Touchpoints: Original, and a new version called “Basic.”

My reviewer’s sample was the original, controlled by an app and Bluetooth. The Basic is a slightly less expensive version but you don’t need an app to power it.

ORIGINAL ($240)

  • BLAST Technology
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • App Controlled
  • 6 Pre-settings (calm, focus, sleep, anger, performance, craving)settings
  • Ability to customize settings
  • Ships immediately

BASIC ($130):

  • BLAST Technology
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • No App Required
  • 3 settings (slow – sleep, medium – calm, fast – anger)
  • 4 color options (Graphite Gray, Marine Green, Cornflower Blue, Dusty Rose)
  • Begins shipping in September

 Who Can Use Touchpoints?

TouchPoints™ are safe for people of all ages and I think they would be particularly attractive to parents who would rather not have ‘ want their children to use too much medication to treat conditions such as Autism and ADHD.

Touchpoints also claims user benefits for Parkinson’s, EMDR, and anxiety-related conditions.  I can’t verify this, although I can say that my stress was temporarily lowered using TouchPoints.

 The Bottom Line:

Touchpoints is a tech device and it’s not inexpensive but it’s not a fortune in the basic version and frankly, if you’re anxious, can’t sleep, or have other issues, it’s a pittance.  The basic costs are either $240 or $130 and then you can customize bands, etc.

If this works for you, the results could be literally, priceless.
