The past few months have been less than delightful for many people. That’s why I’m suggesting 6 fun and very different (and affordable) little treats to make your days and nights, better. The old adage is that when times are tough, women tend to shop for lipstick or shoes. Is that still true? Well, if you can’t get your retail therapy due to Covid-19, reduced finances, what then? If the stores you love have closed, there are still ways to treat yourself with something new, online.
Sexy Sadie Shady Lady. Most baseball-type hats are made for men which means they are always too tall or too big or just look too masculine. Alyson Mandelbaum has changed all that for us girls, with a line of baseball caps for women designed for a woman’s head and to show your interests.
Treat yourself to a hat that you’ll love for years, from Shady Lady.
Whether it’s a bad hair day, or it’s just hot, or you are protecting your hair color, a hat is a way to go. It’s also a way to keep the sun away from your face. I chose a pink and blue design with a palm tree because I love the tropics and news flash, I’m moving to Florida!
There’s a line of Shady Lady hats for kids with the same 6 designs. Men, eat your heart out!
Shady lady hats actually look cute. They fit, and feel comfortable. These “for women” hats are a little more than some at $29, but a portion of the profits go to cleaning up the beaches. Shop https://shopshadylady.com/

Make It Modern:
There’s nothing better than sitting down with a luxe coffee-table sized book and indulging in some eye-candy. Treat yourself to a slightly bigger splurge with a great book, such as: Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses 1929-1975 by Susan Benjamin and Michelangelo Sabatino (The Monacelli Press, September 2020).
The book highlights the role that Chicago and its environs played in the development of “new modern” single-family houses in the 20th century.
While I am a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe this houses in this book focus not just on those masters. It shows more of what was being built at the time.
The book has more than 50 houses of significance and offers you 325 stunning historic images. There are also essays to help you understand the mid-modern genre. Oogle the beauty and creativity and think about what it might be like to live in one of those homes!
Buy this little treat for yourself for $60. You might also start shopping for the holidays and get this great book for someone special.
Get the RED Out!
Lumify is great for clearing up and brightening tired, red eyes. These non-prescription FDA-approved eye drops relieve redness and make the whites of your eyes look brighter in less than a minute. Add a drop then party for up to 8 hours.
The key ingredient is a low dose of brimonidine that constricts the veins in the eyes allowing the flow of blood and oxygen to the eye. The 2.5 ml (there’s a larger size as well) runs about $15. It works like a charm and you don’t need much.
It doesn’t have bleach or dyes. However, if you wear contacts, take them out before using Lumify and wait about 10 mins or more before inserting them.
