How many times have you purchased a lip color or an eye color, but when you got it home you had one of those “What was I thinking?” moments. And, how many times have you pulled out your favorite eye shadow only to realize it just doesn’t go with what you’re wearing, or it’s just not the right intensity or formula? Celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal has come to the rescue, with two amazing kits that play tricks on your cosmetics. They’re called “Pro-Tricks” (LIP: $45.00 +shipping & handling/ EYE: $50.00 + shipping & handling) and they have 9 lip or nine eye colors that you can “tweak” to make them lighter, darker, matte, and more! You can use your own favorite colors with the three “magic potions” on the right hand side of each palette, too. The generously sized palettes (with interior mirrors) also arrive with a nice applicator (brush). Both the Pro-Tricks Lip palette, and the Pro-Tricks Shadow Palette are packaged in girly, drawstring bags with little “crystal” beads on the end of the strings. You might be inspired to use these bags for carrying the applicator brush and other makeup tools, since there isn’t any place inside the palette for storage.
The Lip Palette (photo above) features everything from a ladylike peach, pink and rose, to medium shades of the same, and three deeper ones: red, berry and deep, blackened pink. Fans of Mally Beauty will notice familiar shades: Modern Melon, Nudey, Buff, Orchid, Aubergine, Cheery Blossom, Big Apple, Brick, and Vixen.
You can combine any of the lipstick colors to make your own, customized shades. But it’s the three “magic” pans on the right side of the palette (covered with a clear plastic shield), that help you play some tricks on the existing colors. Mix them with a lipstick to pearlize lighten or darken.
It takes a bit of experimentation to work with this palette, but you’ll have a lot of fun trying learning what works, and what doesn’t. You can use it to create a signature color, but it also is a great way to learn what formulas and intensities of color work best on you, without having to buy a lot of different products. Since you can make so many different looks with this one palette, it’s also great for travel, or for someone who is just learning about makeup.
The Pro-Tricks Shadow Palette contains a nice, soft, generously-sized eye shadow brush and 9 large, square pans of pressed powder eye shadow. Mally Roncal knows just what shades will be universally flattering. The Advice Sisters particularly liked the medium blue, green and peach, but the deeper shades of brown, berry and plum are also gerat for lining and contour. Classic earthy tones in both shimmer and matte formulas also work well for day or evening.
In this makeup kit, the three magic pans on the right hand side lighten or deepen, plus there is a good eye shadow base that keeps any shade lasting longer. It is really interesting, and fun, to have the ability to manipulate a color! The Bottom Line: These palettes are a bit pricey, but they offer a lot of value. If you never even use the color/formula-changing products, the colors are still great as-is and the kits are good for travel and experimentation. The ability to change the formula and the tone, is a big bonus.
