Hello Kitty is an icon. She’s every girl’s best friend, no matter what her age. Of course, “kitty” loves makeup (don’t we all?) and her latest favorite (soon to be yours) is the limited edition Hello Kitty Graffiti Eyeshadow and Blush Palette sold at Sephora and Sephora.com.
The $35.00 palette has two levels, featuring four eye shadows and a blush duo. The compact is Kitty’s head, all done in colorful graffiti tags and a silver bow — an homage to the artists that add life to Kitty’s favorite downtown sidewalks. Equally trendy was the launch event for this latest Hello Kitty collection, an “online party” on Facebook featuring Hello Kitty designer Ms. Yuko Yamaguchi, world renowned graffiti artist POSE, and Hello Kitty herself, along with her entourage of Lolita Girls.
Inside the mirrored compact as four eye shadows, softened, subdued, for Fall, with just a hint of shimmer. There’s a kitten soft grey and pink, and two deeper colors, a medium greyed-teal, and a softened, shimmered charcoal. The colors are opaque, and therefore intense, but they’re soft, so you won’t get a hard, “edgy” look from them. This may dissappoint some who might want a graffiti palette to be deep and smokey, but for the average woman, these are going to be welcome, wearable colors. The second level contains two powder blushes that are very soft but still add color a dusty pink and a very warmed, bronzed peach. Use the peach for contour if you wish, or to add just a bit of color on a tan that’s fading.
Hello Kitty products look adorable, but they’re serious makeup items. The shadows are silky, blend able, and long lasting. And, the products are packed with powerful extracts that help hydrate and soften skin, such as strawberry, apple, and grape seed.
Catch Kitty fever! The Hello Kitty Graffiti collection includes a makeup mirror, makeup bag, and brushes, and a signature rollerball fragrance on a keychain (the Hello Kitty RollerGirl) that is so cute, you won’t be able to resist it (and it’s just $18.00). These each have their own artwork and are collectible, so they are definitely going to sell out. If you love Hello Kitty or know someone who is crazy for these products, don’t wait. Buy them to enjoy now, or stash them for the holidays. You’re sure to make someone “purr” with happiness!
Another limited edition thanks to fashion and design comes from Maybelline. Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara is the most popular mascara in America, maybe the world. This humble classic is probably in every woman’s makeup collection. The waterproof mascara doesn’t clump, lasts a long time, stays put, and frankly, it’s a bargain! The iconic, hot pink and green tube is instantly recognizeable. It was designed by none other than preppy designer Lilly Pulitzer, back in 1971. .

Maybelline Great Lash limited edition 40th anniversary mascara tubes envisioned by Tracey Reese, Max Azria, and Vivienne Tam
Now, on the 40th anniversary of the truly great, Great Lash Mascara, three new designers have gotten a chance to decorate the Great Lash tube: Tracy Reese, Vivienne Tam, and Max Azria. Their unique, limited edition, signed mascara tubes all use the pink and green theme in very different ways. All are designers who have used Maybelline makeup backstage at their fashion shows (and I’m sure by now you know that Maybelline is an official sponsor of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week).
Tam’s tube is decorated with the Chinese symbol for “Lash,” which seems both chic, and appropriate. Max Azria adorned his with sexy black lace, and Tracy Reese choose a bold, graphic floral print that reminds me of a futuristic cityscape. These are going to be available in September beginning for a very limited edition starting September, 2011. Get ready to RUN to pick up your the precious tubes at Target stores around the country — and the best part? They’re just $6.99. If you don’t manage to snag a few, you can still get Great Lash in it’s usual packaging, and still have long, sexy lashes for a budget price!
