Two Skin Savers Pamper Your Skin, Different Ways

August 6, 2011 By: Alison Blackman

Summer skin may have a glow, but it also can become dry and irritated from too much skin, salt, chlorine, wind, sand and more skin sabateurs.  Despite that, you’ll still have to wash and (most women) will be shaving.  To keep your skin from screaming: “save me!” I’m suggesting two essential products that pamper your skin in different ways

The Advice Sisters have previously reviewed Whish Shave Crave (the first non foaming shaving cream for women) and Shave Savour (the first “after shave” product for women) a number of times (check our the What Works Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review column archives). All of these Whish shaving products are deliciously scented and are gentle to your skin. Shave Crave is free of parabens, sulfate, DEA and TEA,and petrochemicals, and features all natural and organic ingredients. I really like these gentle, luxe shaving creams, but the one with the scent that gets me any time of year, is Whish Shave Crave in lavender. It reminds me of the time I visited Thailand. A spa there featured lavender-scented products everywhere. The air was beautifully scented with lavender incense that burned in beautiful little pots, throughout the rooms. No wonder, because lavender is one of those scents that makes you feel calm and pampered. Whenever I smell it, I remember the serenity of that beautiful spa in Thailand.

whish shave craves

Whish Shave Crave shaving creams are packaged in a hard-sided,cardboard tube as if they were precious proclamations. But inside is a nice, pump bottle that dispenses a non-sudsy shaving product that does multiple duties to moisturize, soothe and nourish your skin. It has natural Squalene (Omega 3) and organic shea butter to silken even the driest skin. It soothes with organic green tea and organic coconut oil. Summer-weary skin is nourished with organic jojoba seed oil that even makes dry skin look better. The products are USA-crafted and not tested on animals. In addition, the non-drying formula lets you shave close so you stay hair-free, longer, but it won’t make your skin scream: “uncle!” after you’ve used a razor on it. At $20.00 for 5 oz, it costs more than some of the drying and soapy, drugstore brands, but the scents, the presentation, and the product, are worth the extra.   If you don’t love lavender there’s almond, lemongrass and pomegranate.  Summer means you are probably baring me skin and therefore, shaving more often. One of these wonderful, Whish Shave Craves is waiting for you.  Treat yourself and truly make a boring chore, beautiful!   http://www.whishbody.com/

Thursdays Planatation organic tea tree oil soap

For the rest of your body, I’m suggesting a soap with tea tree oil. Many people already know that Tea Tree Oil is prized in cosmetics products for it’s multi-purpose benefits.  Tea tree oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of  the leaves of the Australian tea tree (a member of the myrtle family), known as “Melaleuca alternifolia.”  This amazing oil has Antiseptic/ Bacterial Properties as a general disinfectant that fights bacteria in all kinds of wounds and infections. It also has anti-Fungal Properties, anti-Viral Properties (but should never be ingested, orally); anti-Inflammatory Properties; and antimicrobial Properties. Tea tree oil dissolves pus and cleans the surface of wounds without damage to the tissue, and can help skin to heal by by encouraging the formation of new scar tissue.  All of this makes this mighty tree, a terrific treat for skin.

Whether your skin is sensitive from Summer’s pleasures, you’ll want to know about Thursdays Plantation. This Australian company makes a wide range of tea tree oil products that are sold in over 5,000 health food, drug and mass market retailers in the United States. One that is particularly great for sunburned or over-exposed skin, is the Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Organic Soap ( $4.99 3,5 oz.).

This fresh smelling, natural-colored bar of soap contains 95% certified organic ingredients. The gentle lather cleanses and purifies your skin without drying it out. If you’ve got bug bites, or a bit of a sun burn, other soaps can make the itching worse, but this soap will relieve minor skin conditions and control odor-causing bacteria as well (so long, stinky, stuffed-into-sneakers, feet). It’s suitable for all skin types.  Add more intense pampering and skin-soothing bennies with  Thursday Plantation’s Tea Tree Hand & Body Lotion 6.8 fl. oz. (srp around $9.99) The bright white and lime green tube with silver flip-top dispenses an instantly soothing cream that needs just a little massaging into your skin. But as you smell the slightly earthy and fresh scent, you’ll also notice dryness is reduced. If your skin is still itchy,  it will be relieved by the time the cream is absorbed.

Keep a bar of  Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil Soap in the bath or shower, and the Hand & Body cream nearby. You may discover that by the time the leaves start falling again, you’re hooked and nothing else but tea tree products satisfy as well anymore. more information at: http://www.thursdayplantation.com/
