The holidays are over, and chances are those strappy sandals and sky-high stilettos that looked so great online or in the store, have taken their toll on your feet. If you feel those arches, aching as you read this, perhaps some slipper-like but walk-able, tote-able footwear should have been in your pocket or purse. But it’s not too late to have a pair on hand for 2012. Here are two that work well for home, parties, travel…anywhere!
More than once, I’ve resorted to unearthing the slim and portable pair of Kushy Foot Flats to Go and gratefully putting them on my feet after a day pounding the pavement in shoes that suddenly feel like a vice. Flats to go are slim, foldable ballerina slippers in a clear, plastic, snap pouch that literally takes up less room and an iPhone. These have an elasticised back to a good fit, and a soft, 3-dimensional wavy sole that cushions and massages the foot as you walk. Although the soles are not thick (you can feel the sidewalk under your feet), they are non-slip, and while you can wear them outdoors, they’re perfect for indoors. I love mine on long airplane trips, too. They are not just available in basic colors like black, either. They’re party-ready in metallics and designs from dots to zebra. They’re just the thing you want after you’ve danced all night and the ground beneath your feet feels like boulders. They will be there to soothe you when you can’t take one more moment of discomfort. These would be a lovely little gift to give your wedding party, and considering that they retail for just $8.99 each, they’re affordable too. Sizes are keyed to shoe sizes and fit well. I never leave home without a pair of Flat To Go in my tote. I mean it! You can find Kushyfoot Flats to Go in a variety of mass market retailers and drug stores. During Fashion Week, at the lovely GBK Lounge at the Empire Hotel, I found a young lady promoting another pair of perfectly lovely, tote-able, temporary flats. These by Sole Discretion. These come in a cute, zippered case about the size of a sandwich. The fold-able flats are very much like the Kushy Foot Flats to Go, with a soft sole, but they don’t have an elasticized back. Still the sizes are simple small, medium and large to fit most everyone. I love the zippered pouch that actually unfolds into a full-sized shopping with handles to carry the shoes that tortured you back along with whatever else you have on hand to carry. However, in all fairness in reporting, the first time I removed my flats from the pouch, the zipper stuck and broke. Disappointing! But these types of issues do happen with zippers from time to time. The company was very responsive to the issue, and truthfully, I still love this carry bag idea –particularly for travel, the beach, etc. And, there’s an extra hydrophilic foam layer (used in wound dressings, it’s a great moisture absorber) on the sole, to absorb moisture and keep feet fresh. And I love the leopard design (they also come in black, silver and gold). For this reason I still give Sole Discretion flats a thumbs up!
