The Advice Sisters have reviewed some sun-protecting items previously. For example, the Scala Collezione Hat with UPF 50 and the Bloq-UV Shawl shawl with UPF 50. But one California-based company grUVyWear has all sorts of stylish shirts, shorts and bikini skirts that will block out 97,5% of the sun’s harmful rays. They even have clothing for babies as young as six months and sizes up to Adult XXL for both men and women.
Wearing a good UVA/UVB sun block is a sure-fire way to protect your skin. Realistically many people reading this feature won’t use enough, or re-apply it often, or use it at all. The good news is that you can protect your skin even if you dislike the look and feel of sunscreens. There are new fabrics that can actually block out a lot of the sun’s rays. All you have to do is wear the clothing and look hot (that’s sexy, not thermally uncomfortable)!
Looking grUVy The UV Swimshirt
I tried a really cute, zippered mock-turtleneck top called the grUVy Ladies UV Swimshirt with Zipper ($39.95) that doesn’t just protect with UPF 50. It looks like I’m ready to go and surf some waves. The silky fabric of 80% nylon and 20% spandex top is remarkably comfortable. The fabric is quick-drying, too. There is a size chart on the grUVy Wear Web Site, but I opted to go up one size so that the shirt would drape nicely. However, the shirt would also skim over your curves if you want to wear it in a more form fitting manner.
The shirt is long enough to cover most of a bikini bottom, but you will also wear it with shorts or pants as a regular shirt, as well as to the beach. The fabric will cover you to SPF 50 but of course, the shirt is short sleeved so the parts of your arms that aren’t covered will still need SPF lotion. You can also unzip the neck, but again, if you do, you’ll have to protect that part of your skin with SPF lotion. There are literally a couple of dozen different prints and color-blocked styles to choose from. You can even embellish your shirts with a variety of rhinestones decals.
grUVy Long Sleeve Top
There are long sleeved tops, too such as this Adult Long Sleeve Black and Fuchsia top for $37.95. Whether you religiously slather on the sun screen or not, these shirts look cool and keep your precious skin protected, at least wherever the fabric is. The price is about the same as a regular swimsuit cover up, but imagine all the places you’ll be able to wear a shirt like this one, and know that you don’t just look good, you’re doing something good for your body. Thanks to companies such as grUVy Wear, you no longer have any excuses to expose your precious skin to the sun’s damaging rays! Visit www.gruvywear.com
