I’m excited to share Vellum St. Soap Company products with you. From ingredients to packaging, the Vellum St Soap Company makes their products clean and green, with very unique fragrances.
The glass containers are made from upcycled beer and liquor bottles, which is a nice touch.
The soaps are tallow based, crafted from locally and organically based food-grade and upcycled materials that would normally just be considered “waste.”
What Is Tallow?
I’ll get right to the point: These products are primarily made from tallow, which comes from cattle. To put it nicely, in these products, tallow is highly sustainable from pastured, humanely raised animals that have already made the journey from farm to table. In other words, they have already transitioned to your grocery store.
So, if you are vegan, maybe these skincare items won’t be your thing. However, for the rest of us, tallow can be a really good thing for your skin, It is rich in Vitamins A, D, E & K as well as the lipids that we can find in our own skin (especially youthful and healthy skin).
You can eat tallow, cook with it and use it in soaps and candles. In our great grandparents’ day, tallow was widely used for cooking and also for lighting the place with candles. In fact, dipped candles made of tallow were made all the way back to 500 BC.
Scent-sational Fragrances:
it’s not just the clean and sustainable product concept that wowed me. The wide variety of fragrances are truly unique. I tried several:
There are so many interesting scents, it is hard to choose just a few. One of my favorites is “Cherry Wooder Ice.” The smell is truly the scent of crushed cherries, not too sweet, or too tart.
The runner up is “Orange Cinnamon Chai” which is invigoratingly fresh and spicy with a true chai fragrance.
On the opposite side of the scent spectrum is Campfire. To me, it smells like a freshly opened bag of charcoal briquettes, but with a hint of floral to ensure you don’t smell like a fire sale. I think this one will really appeal to men as well.
Do you love the smell of freshly ground pepper? Then Black Pepper Bergamot is going to be for you. There is actual pepper in the soap!
When you wash with these soaps, the scent wafts up into your nostrils. It won’t stay on your skin like a perfume, but lasts long enough to offer aromatherapy benefits.
Bodacious Body Balm:
In my photo, you will also see a super large All-Purpose Balm in a glass jar, plus tins of Large and Small all-purpose balm ($5-$25). The balm is also richly scented and smells amazing on your skin. You can also use it on your lips. Vellum doesn’t believe that you should put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth!
Why use a tallow-based body balm? According to the Vellum St Soap Company plant oils can interfere with your skin’s own sebum production, causing your body to produce even less, keeping you trapped in a cycle of dependency. It’s even safe enough to eat (but don’t do that, just slather it on your dry skin)
Candles & Bath Salts:
If you have time for a romantic (stay-in) evening, or a quick spa experience, a candle is always welcome (just be sure you put it somewhere that the kids abd pets can’t knock it over). I sampled Vellum’s Lye & Lard Candles and their Exfoliating Tallow Bath Salts.
The Lemon Ginger Oatmeal candle ($35) I tried that a soft, milky, comforting scent. It’s made with organic lemons left over from a local bottler after their limoncello production. The candle is high-quality tallow and local, unadulterated beeswax. Essential oils in this one are lemon, ginger, and oats
Bath and salt scrub lovers will find the Black Pepper Bergamot scented scrub to be a real treat. The natural scrub has Epsom/Dead/pink Himalayan sea salts, tallow, indigo, black pepper, blueberry seed oil. Essential oils of juniper berry, bergamot, black pepper, and vanilla absolute make it invigorating!
I really like the packaging of this 10 oz. jar of Bath Salts ($25) with a cork stopper that uses an upcycled Modelo beer bottle. However, I recommend leaving this one on a high shelf so it doesn’t break or spill. $3 credit towards future purchases if you return the bottles to the Vellum Soap Company.
I really loved thee products, not just for their clean and eco-friendly approach, but for products that feel spa-centric and scents that make every day a little more special. Visit the Vellum St Web Site: https://vellumstsoapcompany.com/
